I think that is slang. Something like: "Now you're cooking with gas." (just kidding)

From what my Japanese associates told me in my time there, the l and r sounds are the same in Japanese (ie both represent acceptable ways of pronouncing the same sound) and if, when you are young, you don't learn to distinguish them, it's difficult to learn later on. Similarly, my wife, for the life of her and thirty years married to a Greek speaker, can not roll an r which makes her pronunciation of any Greek word with the rho (R'ish sound that's rolled rather than guttural) sound even more Southern. The maker of this video usually has pretty good English and this mistake is uncharacteristic. Given the amount of Japanese words I absolutely slaughtered in my time there, I owe this guy a lot (and I mean A LOT) of slack.

Edit: I can understand these sub-titles but not for a million dollars could I tell if anything is mispelled.

" if, when you are young, you don't learn to distinguish them, it's difficult to learn later on"

The Marines took advantage of this in WWII by using passwords that included the letter "r"
