Re: Flyday - march 1

Did get some decent flights just as it was getting dark. The water was butter smooth so it was like riding a nice bike on smooth asphalt - bliss.

Anyways - when I got there, some lagging showers were still to the west and I didn't want to go out until they cleared so I hung around a pretty much empty Van Pugh and waited for Langdon. It was quiet and still so I took some pics of the water level which is almost 6 inches below the max of a few days ago. Then a car pulls up and a gent gets out with a metal detector.

He began to "detect". His detector emitted a beep every time it comes across anything metallic. Every time. Every single time. For the next half hour, it was like having a nephew with his new toy in the back seat that goes beep, beep... beep, beep, beep.

For the first hour on the water, I wondered if this was just another episode of my long running series, "I Drove to the Lake for Nothing" but the wind finally began to kick in late. Fun was had. It was worth it.

Epilogue: if you leave Van Pugh late, mind the deer. Saw about 6-8 last night after leaving the park.
