Fire

If anyone is looking for some nice terrain this weekend in the Southeast,
Sunday and Monday mornings are looking potentially epic here in the
Florida Panhandle.
http://weather.unisys.com/eta/4panel/eta_pres_4panel.html

Venue will be St. George Island about 40 minutes east of PC. Once
on the island, head east for several miles until you enter the State
Park. Pony up your $3 and drive slowly! (they ticket) a mile or so
towards the first pavilions. We will be launching from the last
turnout before these pavilions and across from a ramp area on the bay.
I think its turnout #5. Look for an old oyster boat on the left and a
red BMW with racks in the turnout on the right.

Wind will be sideshore in the 20+ range and the wave should be head
high or better. Bring an on-shore fin as sometimes there is current.
Also bring a weed fin just in case. Water is still warm but air temps
are supposed to be in the low fiddies in the AM so bring some rubber
to avoid shrinkage.

There hasn't been much shore pound so the launch should be pretty
friendly. Tide is low at 11 AM which is perfect for ramps and wave
form. Park opens at 8 AM and early bird gets the wave as things tend
to drop there after lunch although recently its stayed up through the
mid-afternoon.

For recon, have a look at the bug Saturday late and early Sunday AM:

Hope to see some of your wave contingent. We will have a dedicated photographer on the beach with video and digital cameras capturing the insanity. Might be able to get a web page out of it if enough represent.

Thanks for the heads up. I cant make the drive this weekend, but are definately interested in learning more about sailing the Florida panhandle. I relocated from Upstate New York and I find myself missing the wave sailing tremendously. Please keep posting potential sailing conditions in the panhandle as I have no idea of where and when to go. (And I dont want to drive the 5 plus hours to get skunked because I did not have any local knowledge. )

All that said, I still need a kitchen pass from the wife as that puts me out all weekend and I have two small children. Keep me (and the ABC) posted on big forecasts. Thank you in advance, Trey Olney
