Desperate measures.*
I've done this... to great delight– surf the outflow boundary.
Seen this a few times lately where a t'storm complex pushes a wall of cool, dense wind ahead of it.
I specifically recall a still July day, many years ago, on my beloved Fanatic UltraBee (floaty slalom board) with a 6.4, schlogging out to the middle of Lanier on the chance this would happen. Gust front came on like somebody just dialed up 25 knots. It was sublime... bearing waaay off in the glassy undisturbed water. Mr Toad's Wild Ride– overpowered but in complete control. 40 knots of boat speed fo' sure
*You really shouldn't do this. If you can hear thunder, you should go indoors.

I feel the desperation. Worst part was how little wind it took to get going last weekend. It's totally wrecked me.
But, yeah, if you can hear or see evidence of lightning don't be on the water. Been there once. Idiot idea.

btw, FoilDood, when I read the topic of this thread, I was expecting to see a link to a Prepper blog.
