Re: childs mast and sail

Both Hot and Ezzy make kid specific rigs that are fantastic.  I'm talkin' real sails, not a plastic triangle.  Hot has a special aluminum pre-bent mast to fit the sail, Ezzy uses a  special mast or just the bottom and a regular 400cm mast.

These sails rig and tune just like adult sails. Consequently, when the wind comes up, you just downhaul a bit and snug up the outhaul and the sail twists off marvelously.  Hot goes from 2.7 down but they expect to make up to a 3.8 next year.  Ezzy starts at a 3.3 and goes down.

btw, I have a brand spankin' new Ezzy 2.8 for sale if you want to email me.  No mast or boom but the sail has never been used.  We found it thinking that we'd  use Ezzy's for the larger sizes but I think I'll stick with Hot since they are going to be making larger sizes (we already own 2 complete Hot rigs).

My son is 10 and about 57 lbs.  He handles the 2.7 up to about 15 (solid 7.5 adult weather) and the 2.1 up close to 20 (6.5 ish).

If you even remotely think your son is going to like it, get a good rig, it's definitely worth it.  Also, if you don't already own one, get a wide board for him- no kid needs to worry about falling in when they learn.  And, you are right; even a small adult rig (even a 3.0-3.5) is way too big for a kid to handle.
