Charleston Fort 2 Battery Race 4/26/19

Hi everyone -

I'd like to share a little about my experience in participating in the F2B race last weekend.

I am not the first from Atlanta to participate in this race - I know Chris Voith has done it in the past. The race welcomes windsurfers, catamarans, and lots and lots of foiling vessels (kiteboards, windsurfers, wasps, etc ).

This year was my first attempt and I did it on a twin-tip kiteboard.

The photo included is with Atlanta kiters Reid and Jenn after the Fort 2 Battery race at James Island Yacht Club. The race and weekend were awesome. Reid and Jenn actually finished and I did make it TO the Battery, but not to the finish. I will do that next time :-). I need to sail a little more efficiently and I'm planning on foiling more, so next time could be on a foil. In a followup post I'll share some gopro of the parts of the race where I was moving along nicely. We were given a ride out to Fort Sumter and we launched and then started from there. We then raced back to the Battery. The top finishers (kiteboarding foil boarders) travelled at 26 knots in 12 - 16 knots of wind. While I raced, Wendy from JIYC adopted my wife and everyone made us feel very welcome at the event. Thank you again to Mr Adams for plucking me from the bay at a very convenient time (before I needed to climb the sea-wall at the Historical Charleston Foundation). He is a former windsurfer and JIYC member who has come to Atlanta for the Fall Classic back in the day. I have much more to share: the weather in Charleston in the Spring is great, do the race, move there, join JIYC ... haha. Will work on the video... and let's get a bigger Atlanta crew out for the race next year - you will love it.

Sounds like y'all had a lot of fun, I would really like to go next year.
Charleston is one of my favorite cities and the folks at JIYC are awesome.

We will be at JIYC for their annual Special Olympics regatta 5/31-6/2.
If anyone is in the area that weekend come by and cheer the athletes on.
They will be sailing 420 and Hobie Cat's.

Alan
