Aruba Trip 6/8-6/15/02 - The Real Facts

June 13th.  Thursday
The wind was 18 - 24 gusts to 28.  Today turned out to be a little lighter.  As it happens, I didn’t see anybody on the water yesterday due to a shark school alert.  I think it was a hoax because I never even heard a school bell signaling class changes.  Drew and I started the day by going to Vela’s shop.  Not very big.  Windsurfing stuff, cereal, eggs, butter, bread that sort of thing.  They did have a new NP V8 7.5 for $149.  Andrew bought one of these sails and a 100% carbon mast for $195 including shipping container.  Drew bought a lycra shirt for $38 and some gloves for $12.50 not that he needed gloves because I brought four pair.  I decided that I would try again to get some photos because everyone was missing yesterday.  We loaded up the car with the cameras and set it up again, walking all the way back to our house at SBV.  Drew and I were on the water at 11:00.  The wind was a little lighter today.  The gusts were a little heaver.  It was not as easy to just hook in and cruise.  Had to work the arms a little more.  Drew was on a 6.0 again and I was on that same 6.5.    I was able to get an acceptable photo of Danny and a good one of Scott but I just couldn’t find the others on the water.  Maybe they were all out on the Blue Highway - this deep water channel just outside the coral reef.  Drew and I were off the water by 4:00.  We took a short rest in our room and then attended a clinic at SBV at 5:30.   We all had planned to go to Dasher’s dinner at the Manba Bar on the beach.  They had a sports grill type TV system and we viewed digital photos of one another on the screen.  Dasher was, of course, selling photos. $25 each on a CD.  I shot 8 rolls of 35 mm film and my processing cost will be around $40.  I think, hope and pray that my photos are better than what I saw on the screen.  Time will tell.  This whole thing started at 6:30 and dinner was served at 9:15.  Chicken - chicken soup and beef tips.  I hope it was good.  You see, these two British looking blokes came-a- looking for Andrew.  They mistook Drew for Andrew and scurried us away.  Secret Agent stuff and all.  When they realized there was a mistaken identity, the four of us decided to do Taco Bell. Finally we had something to eat.  We had been seated at our table for 2 hours and they had not brought anything to eat.  Drew and I were starving.  During the party I went around and asked everyone if they were tired after a week of windsurfing.  I got a resounding NO!  Me and Drew on the other hand were tired, grumpy and short tempered.  I just wondered how everyone else got along so well.  Supermen all of them.  Drew and I have a plan for tomorrow.  We are going to the Land Bridge in the morning and we may do a few caves too.  Then we plan on being on the water by 1 or 2:00.  No photos today - too much work setting up and all.

My opinion of the day - a Good sailing day
