Aruba Trip 6/8-6/15/02 - The Real Facts

June 11th.  Tuesday

The conditions the wind again is running 23 - 28 with the highest gust at 38 at 10:15 AM.  The hammer is still on but conditions began to change about 3 PM.  Prior to 3 the chop was up and the wind was still going strong.  After 3 the lulls began to fill in, the gusts leveled out and the water became very flat by 4:00.  I am hoping for the same on Wednesday.  When these big gusts hit you they take the sail and shake it violently.  This just drains my energy.  I am longing for a good clean reach that lasts a long time and acts more like being on cruise control.    I sailed hard for two days and then took Tuesday off.  Drew and I went to the windward side of the island.  We first went to the lighthouse then to Baby Beach at the other end.  We snorkeled at Baby Beach for about 2 hours then watched kiteboarders and the waves.  We figured we would meet up with everyone on the beach at the Marriott late in the day.  Sure enough, everyone was there but they didn’t stick around very long.  It seems fatigue was setting in.  Scott had all these red splotches on his face and he was trying to ice his hands to close all the cuts.  Chuck showed his hands and I hope they last until Saturday.  Doug was doing pretty good because he went back to the room and took a nap.  Joe, well you know Joe, he is like the energizer bunny - he never quits.  Andrew and Larry were in good spirits and had sailed all day on 5.2 but were a little underpowered late in the day.  Larry finally admitted that he had to be rescued by a boat.  Everyone had hands that look like raw meat.  Me I was feeling rested and ready for tomorrow.  I am trying to manage my energy.   I would really be remiss if I failed to inform everyone of the major distraction of the day.   Three young blond babes where sunning themselves just 10 feet from where all the ABC’ers were gathered.  The young things had left their swim tops back in the room and were doing the striptease for all of us.  I really don’t know who enjoyed this better, Doug or Drew.  Drew was certainly impressed.

My opinion of the day - I didn’t sail but I think is was another hard day.
