Marek got there first and rigged a 6.5. Peelskid and I followed with the same. Barrett came a bit later and rigged 7.0. Marek put it pretty well, you could rig a 9.5 or you could rig a 5.5. Very NW with chop colliding as some of it came up the main channel (W) and other parts from the wind (NNW). The gusts would roll in for about 5-10 min pretty solid mid to upper 20s and then fade off for another 5. Pretty challenging stuff. Props to Marek for being first on the water, to Peelskid for keeping on keeping on and Barrett who uses about .5 sq meter of sail per kg of body weight.
Had about 7 kiters at Old Fed, including David D, Roger, Ried, other David, Devin, and Joe ?. Kites size was 14 meters, (one 16.) I was on my 14 but now think I was too big, Started out OK, but then overpowered and struggled getting in, almost put my kite on the swimming beach marker then almost had it up on the rocks in the corner, not very pretty, I was getting worried. David D did fine on his 14 but I think he has a few more pounds on him, so I think I would have been better off on an 11. If the wind History was anything close to real, I definitely should have been on the 11.
Similar conditions at Galts. 6.5 was plenty when it was on, but I don't think I planed for more than 2 minutes at a stretch.
On/off AND gusty... oh boy Actually not horrible for Micah on his Start & 6.5. He's got it going. Props for getting out there on a bit of a raw day. It was cloudy with spitting rain by the time I left at 6p.
Thanks Chris for hanging out and giving me some advice. The conditions kinda stayed the same until I left around 7:30. I ended up doing the walk of shame from the other side of the boat ramp after I got stuck in the Christmas trees...and I tore the monofilm on my sail a bit on the rocks. Still functions and I think I can fix it.
Galts, Per Randy's recommendation, is a nice place to learn at this water level. It is only waist deep 100yds out. Thanks again!
I'd like to go this afternoon. Is anyone else heading to Van Pugh? I don't want to sail alone.
Barrett
Hopefully there around 2. I was enjoying the 70s...
I hope to be there by 2:30PM.

I'm not going to point out the obvious.

I am just working on getting back in the saddle. Trying to get the body ready for the good days that I know are coming.
Something about that cold water just eats into my sailing ability. Never fear WARM is near.
Second time I have sailed this year since last in the water about Nov. 14.
PeelSkid
That history seemed to synch up with what we had when it was really cranking mid afternoon.
We won't either...

3M clear packing tape (the heavy duty stuff in big roll) if it's on the monofilm (clear plastic). I keep a roll in the tool box.
West Marine has some adhesive backed dacron tape for repairs to luff sleeves.
Goop is good for "gluing" stuff like seams, etc.
I bought some of this...looks like it will do the trick. Thanks for the help.
Obiously what I thought would be Obvious wasnt so Obvious. The point I wasnt going to point out was -
7 Kiters, 4 Windsurfers.

If it were a popularity contest, we'd all be on jet skis...

Glad there were a lot of kiters out. Kiting here, to me, seemed to be in a lull so it's nice to know there was a good turnout.
