    Gene,

Thanks a lot for the pictures, the food and the moral support.

I know that without you guys cheering us on we would not last out there so long in the cold wind. With the group...

AND we also had Emilio of Locus Wind, the new Kite Sailing shop in Atlanta do a little kiting in the Gusty Cold winds.

Here's some photos of those HARD CORE SAILORS with the wind and the air tempt in the 30's:

Gene & Lisa: thanks for bringing the catfish stew and the brownies. With 36F temparatures and 5.5 conditions, they provided much needed sustenance!

It was great to see all the...

    Alan,

The house Patrick was talking about is a house in Nags Head which Ron (from up north) gets for about 5 weeks every spring and some atlanta sailors usually end up at for a week or two...

Had I known. Barrett rang me and when we saw the forecast high for Columbus at 49 and Gainesville at 43, didn't seem like a big enough difference to go.

After having lunch with my family in...

Should have come to Augusta! 3.7 winds with temps in the mid-50s. The lake is surprisingly warm for winter -- some went without gloves.

One never goes to Hatteras alone, if possible. So much more fun to sail with buds or family and splitting the cost makes it all worthwhile. Split a house and you spend $100-150 for the week.

I'm loading up and heading to Galt's. Here's hoping the temperature goes up some. -Bill H.

I'll be fighting the gusts at Galts with Randy. Lanier chop is just too much for me on the really big days.

Hey, Gene, it will be great to see you up and about, even if you're not on the water.

I'm bringing my gear but I think the wind and water conditions are going to be too much for my big...

    Aloha,

Thanks to Chris for giving me the heads-up on this thread...

I'm the guy in the video clip.

Yes, the foilboard is a bit "twitchy". I'd actually use the word sensitive,...

I'll be heading to Van Pugh tomorrow afternoon.

I was considering camping at Frisco Woods. Getting a big house didn't make a lot of sense for just myself. It would make it a $1,000 week for me. If someone else is going it would be more of a...

Bill H. showed me his epoxy stick from HoOme depot. I believe it was white.

I should be at Galts if the temp is bearable. However, the skeptic in me says we will not see those kind of winds.

    Alan,
Check and see if the Nag's Head house is open that week. It would be more cost effective to stay there with company. And you could stay all week.

To answer Chris's question, I do need a new board, however at $2500 a hydrofoil board, I think I'll go with a conventional design.

I'll be at Van Pugh tomorrow - should be a blast (perhaps arctic!).

I fully intend on being there. That would make three and maybe four. The only thing that would keep me from it would be my son's wisdom teeth situation. I will likely get there between 1 and 2....

If you sail at Van Pugh, try going all the way across to that little string of islands off Aqualand. There is currently a nice protected spot in the lee of several of the islands on a NW wind. It'...

So there might be two sailors so far at Galts... I'm tempted!

  • by Anonymous 18 years 3 months ago

Galts has pretty flat water compared to Van Pugh. If the wind is NW, it will come down the channel and should work pretty well. So you can have high winds and flat water. (Wind is more gusty as...
