Tuesday 5/30 (plus Wed etc)

May be a good afternoon for lightwind foiling if it's overcast. Things have been upside down lately. Good east sessions in the afternoon. Using a 4.7 in late May. Very confusing but I'll roll with it if it means wind. Wed looks a bit better -wind wise - but wetter. More NE days later in the week, too.

Let’s see if ‘Hamdi wannabe’ can beat real Hamdi to the launch tomorrow. ? I am hoping to follow sailing with dirt biking again; so hoping for an early arrival as well.

I plan to sail Wed. Where do you plan to launch?

I will go to Vanns early, plan to sail maybe 1.5hrs. I am aiming to arrive 7:30-8ish, so likely leaving by 10-10:30.

Sailed this afternoon. For a while, around 4 pm, it blew nicely - 12 to 15+. While it blew, made it almost in a single tack completely on foil from the launch at Van Pugh up to Port Royal. After waiting for puff for about 5 minutes (had smaller 900 wing), got another ride all the way back down.

The puffs today were completely under the clouds ie air descending from the cloud. The sky went clear at one point and I was screwed. I had to wait until the evening breeze came back as it was cooling off. Water definitely warmer, too.

Big board, 8.0 sail and iqfoil (900cm2)

Vanns 8am - decent breeze, empty parking, overcast with very little drizzle (barely noticeable). I will be here till 10-10:30, then heading to dirt biking - unless rain picks up and I decide to sail longer with no riding

Nope, I have Tubliss and pressure set to 13-14 for forest roads on this bike. I found some very sweet single track off the FS roads, was a lot of fun. We should ride sometime

Rhett recommended an 8.0m sail for foiling in light wind. It's been sitting in my Van, but with light summer winds on the way, I was glad I bought one (and thanks to Foil Dodo, remembered to down haul the sail). It was lots of fun foiling with the 8.0m with not a white cap in sight. Mike, Gene & I sailed at Van Pugh, later joined by William.

Re: Tuesday 5/30 (plus Wed etc)

Did afternoon shift cause stuff had to get done earlier. Not much wind but a good amount of flying time. Worth sharing - my new big board has been a bit "nose heavy" in jibes because the mast track is set a few cm forward of where my old board had its track. It's not a big deal fully ripping in 20 mph winds as there's plenty of lift at those speeds but my low wind jibes had suffered badly. I struggled to make anything in winds under 12-14 mph as I needed way too much back foot pressure.

Solution - add another 1/2 degree to the rear stab and moved the mast base about 5 cm forward to balance out the extra lift. Worked like a charm and got some of my old mojo back, flying though jibes in about 10-11 mph winds again.

Moral(s) of the story: if something isn't right with your kit, play, experiment and adjust. For better or worse, windsport gear can be sensitive to some really small adjustments. Foiling gear even more so. If you don't know what to adjust, ask someone more experienced. Tell them the symptoms and see what you can tweak to have the desired outcome. Moral 2: You need to have sufficient pressure under the front foot to windfoil jibe. If the board doesn't fly even and flat when you have the back foot across, it will be hard to impossible to fly through. Move a strap, mast base or change a shim to accomplish this. In my case, my straps and mast base were already back so my next option was to add shim.
