Monday, Tues, Wed - Anyone for a 4 day streak?

After a big Sunday with small kites, the forecast looks good again today and tomorrow and maybe even Wednesday. Any kiters or windsurf/foilers looking to get in a few consecutive days on the water want to join me at Old Federal? Thinking of starting about 1pm.

I intend to try to go to VP for a couple hours, likely around noon.

I'll be there 1-1:30.

Sorry, Mel. For those of us at ground level, those islands can be a nuisance wind-wise. Sad Hope you can take advantage of this. I've seen streaks like this in March or in a tropical storm but not really this time of year.

Went back out at ~16:53 hoping it had laid down some. Nope. Webguy made the most of it, of course, on a 3-something and racked up mucho miles Good

Zee and JP joined us on the water and Channey and Robert came by to say hello. Yeah, I had a smaller version of my postage stamp, a Chopper S. Not sure what actual size it equates to but 3 something is about right: 340 luff and 152 boom.
Tried the 4.7 for about 30 min which was good at first but when it kicked in, it made sense to use what was sitting in the car.
Lots of sweet downwind runs followed by the upwind "chairlift ".
What, we get to do this again tomorrow? Biggrin

This is making me rethink driving up tomorrow, never thought I’d really need anything smaller than 4.5.
What size sails were the fin guys on?

Zee was on 5.5. JP was using an older sail so probably not a good benchmark. I'd think you'd be okay with a 4.5. I think I could have done a 4.0 or bigger on a fin. Just be aware that there were some holes and you'll need to float out to the wind line.

Re: Monday, Tues, Wed - Anyone for a 4 day streak?

I took the early shift at VP, foiled 1.5+ hrs starting at 11:15am. Most foiling and fun I have ever had with my 3.7 Lift sail. So, just for that, this sail of mine is now off the ‘for sale’ list - not that there seemed to be any interest in it or anything else I am trying to sell ?.
Oddly, of all the days and conditions, I came closest to a full foiling jibe today - with no witnesses around to claim otherwise, I will even declare that one was a full foiling jibe ?. No doubt a fluke, may or may not be repeated in the next few years!
Good day!

PS: plenty of swimming for me today but again oddly none during a jibe attempt; all on the straight due strong appearing from out of nowhere (to my inexperienced eyes anyways) or going dead. Maybe I am just not trying hard enough during the jibe attempts?

Very, very happy for you. I knew you were close to the break through. In some alternative universe, someone else bought your gear and they felt that joy and thrill instead. Shok

Q: What’s wrong with this picture?
A: I was in it.

I’m selling all my stuff… well, at least the 30 year old 3.7 I struggled home on.

Kudos to William who was totally dialed in as usual- ten minutes and one tack to get a mile upwind. Good

Re: Monday, Tues, Wed - Anyone for a 4 day streak?

Chris and Channey both went out in probably the hardest of the blow today. I went out after they just came back with reports of swells so big that George Clooney would have gotten PTSD. They were right, some of the biggest swells I've seen in a few years - I was happy to keep all 95cm of my mast in the water. For the better part of the day, was able to find enough lighter patches to jibe in. Started to jibe wingfoil style: switched feet early, flagged the sail and just carved around on foil only. Pretty cool. Not having the sail in front helped spot my height better and also allowed sharper turns so I wasn't having to traverse a lot of swell on the downwind portion.

Biggest gust was after I came in for a break and texted Chris that it had backed off a bit. I went out and near the top of Aqualand got hit by a gust so big that my 3 something sail became totally uncontrollable and I foiled out.

Channey got some runs in on fin and Scott did a really good job winging a 4.0. Zee also came but the consensus was his 4.4 was still a bit big for him. There's always (literally this week) tomorrow.

More pics of Chris and Channey

4 straight days of kiting on Lanier on 3 days of 8m (wish I’d had it 2 of those) and a day where the 11 was appropriate. Who would have believed it prior to this week? For all of you wind gurus out there, what was the weather phenomenon that caused Lanier to become such a wind Mecca for 4 days? Any more of that to come or will it shut down until the fall?

I agree, like we morphed in to OBX mode for 4 days. Funny, when your really overpowered on a 9m you start seeking some of that island blockage you all complain about...

There's a spot just above the island at 16 (the one above Aqualand) I got to know it really well the past few days. I bought my sail (used) about 5-6 weeks ago for that on eBay or twice can year in the winter. I really didn't expect to unroll it until November. Gobsmacked that I used it three straight days in May. It's a freakin' postage stamp. I remember maybe 8 of 10 days being sailable in March once or twice but this is another level. What a great experience to share with you all. Good

Short clip of Chris coming in. A better idea of the wind chop in action. That's a great looking sail and Chris is keen to make someone a deal on it. Biggrin
