Two seconds in Bonaire

A friend sent me this pic of his GPS track in Bonaire. He was foiling on a 590 wing and 8.0 race sail when he poked his head outside the reef. He's sailed out before and has the skills to be out there. However, he didn't feel comfortable in the confused 2m swell so decided to come back in. He sent me the pic below with the message: "Scariest two seconds of my life, on the way back in…"

He continued:
"Easily 2m swell out there, and messy. No room for error on the way in; if you crash it’s game over, at least for the gear. You have to stay on foil, but can’t go too fast or you go through the back of the swell. 590 wing was probably a bit small for that game ?"

I love how the satellite image shows the very clear change in conditions (probably very consistent due to reef there).

Going out in confused swell half that size scared me on my 725 and 650 wings. And I'm not that fast. Can't image screaming along at slalom speeds and having to contend with confused swells that size.

I've been to Bonaire a lot but I would never go beyond Lac Bay. Every time I have been in Bonaire the ocean is always cranking.

My buddy is either not very smart or very brave. Lol Another trip out. Evidently, he's pretty fast, too.
