Monday 3/13

VP after lunch. Chilly and windy, probably 14-25. MId 50s and likely small (less than 5.0 for foiling) sails, imho. Biggrin

It blew. Good times....

Chris P and Hamdi drove in the park just in front of me. Gene, Rhett and Roland were already there. Mike just behind. Langdon came by to say hello.

15-25+. Good

Re: Monday 3/13

worked in a brief session on Hartwell down on SC side of dam. Rigged a 6.6 and had about an hour and a half of slogging and planing, slogging and planing . . . and in verrrry confused, teeth rattling chop.

Winds shifted more northwards and really cranked up around 5:30 warranting a smaller sail, but I was rather afield from the launch, and it felt too late to re-rig anyway. So I pulled ashore on a little beach and cranked everything down on the 6.6 about as much as I could and headed back out, imagining I'd just 'manage' my way back to the launch and be done.

But...wow! This may be the first time I've really tightened everything to this extent on this 6.6 Ezzy Infinity...and I couldn't believe how manageable it became in the heavy breeze! Had I rigged something new in this wind, I may have opted for a 5.5. I can be slow to put a lot of stock in some of what are even just basic lessons (like more downhaul/outhaul when windier) - but jeez. This was clearly the most glaring demonstration for me of how effective that can be. (And/or are Ezzys particularly capable in this regard???). Something for me to remember, for sure.

Anyway, felt good enough to spend another hour in what had evened out into a rather substantial, less confused lake swell.

A rather full and fun 3 hour session overall. And gorgeous.

Yes, Ezzys have always had a deserved reputation for tuning range. Glad you took the moment to experiment. When I owned my Cheetah 7.0, I often had it out in more wind that any sensible person would. I've certainly seen others, e.g. Gene, Barrett, do the same. Sounds like you had a fun day.

Our wind kicked in a little earlier but kind of the same thing. At 2 pm, I was thinking: glad I didn't rig the 4.0, lots of holes out here. At 5pm, I was thinking: the 4.0 would be pretty handy right now. Lol But, like you, I made do and had a good time.

I guess this rings a bell for me, but this is the first time I put it to such a test. Awesome. Brings even more regard for a sail I"ve already enjoyed for a few years now (and I have 2 of them! thanks to Dave and Randy Yes 3 )

Thanks, William! (and have I mentioned how much I enjoy the screamer in a while!?? Biggrin )

Glad y'all had a good one there too!!! And enjoy today for all who get out ~
