Robby Naish sells Naish

Deal done last week. He apparently sells all of the product lines, distribution. Will have a continuing role. This (long) podcast is an interview with Robby explaining it all.

Thanks for the post. This marks the end of an era where Robby started the company with his parents in Oahu and expanded it from windsurfing, to kiting, SUP, & winging.

Here's a Jan. 2007 photo of my wife, Peggy, in the Naish Kailua store with Robby's mother, Carol & his brother at the sales counter. They were great folks to do business with. I recall that the board I rented didn't fit in our rental car, so Robby's brother drove it over to the beach.

I listened and liked it. He still owns the brand, but not the company - if I said that right.
He will not be a one man show, the company (Kubus (sp?)) will manage all the day-to-day and is based in Europe. This takes a layer of mark-up out and makes them competitive with European based brands. It also frees him up to be on the water and not do everything.

Back in ~ 1978 I may have rented from his Dad in Kailua - we were at Church camp there and I rented an OG windwurfer - loved it and didn't sail again until themid 1990's when I met William online and he said go to Calima :-)/

Yeah - I listed to the whole podcast as well (and I dislike podcasts in general and long one even more.) It was quite interesting and it seems Robby had an issue with people who didn't pay for the stuff they ordered from him - mentioned that several times. Anyway, you could hear a lot frustration from him about the day to day grind of running a big business and he seemed pretty honest in assessing his shortcomings as manager. So, hope it works out well for him.
