I am camping right up the street from LLSC and seeing some decent ripples and branch movement, though no white caps. For the right sailor with a large sail and/or wing, foiling might work. I don’t know if I am in that group - not for weight class or capability but have the large sail & wing ?
I decide to give it a shot and missing the memo about VP, thought ‘I don’t mind driving 2min to LLSC rather than foil from the campground myself’. Well, I didn’t get the company that I expected but had a good session at LLSC regardless. Hope Members didn’t mind a stranger being there (I only saw a couple people near the lodge as I was leaving).
Lesson learned (maybe) - check last minute updates, don’t miss the memo!?
Mike (fin), Transit Willie, Gene and I (foils) had a swell time at VP. I was a bit underpowered with a 5.5. Gene & TW we’re living large on 6.7 & 8. TW put some serious upwind/downwind miles on his IQ kit, training to sail with the big dogs in FL. I did witness a moment of what aviators call "Unusual Attitude Training" by Willie– a big, backwinded, mid-jibe wheelie landed the board upside down. Is it wrong to smile a little when your guru stumbles?

Yeah, somehow ended up major backwinded and got slapped straight off the board. I think I got a bit lazy with my technique on that one. Had a long swim out from underneath the sail and as surprised as anyone to see the foil sticking up out of the water. Yes, okay to laugh as long as there's a bit of applause. It took real talent to mess that one up so badly in all of 12 mph of wind.
