Late summer/fall NEs arrive

One of my favorite weather patterns, the morning northeasterly seems like it's back on the menu. Saturday morning currently looks like a decent chance with the GFS - which seems to be better at picking up on this - being more optimistic.

A reminder - this is a morning phenomenon. By 12:30-1 pm, the best part of the party is over. Vann's, Van Pugh and Tidwell on Lanier; Galts on Allatoona; and the west side of the dam on West Point are all favorites.

Thanks to Langdon for the heads up and Chris Voith for his ministrations before the wind altar.

Also.... On Easts, do not sit around the house watching the GVL reporting station to give you a wind speed that would interest you.

By time G'ville is reporting 14+ , those of us who got to Vanns early have been playing on sub 6m sails for an hour or more

I'm keeping an eye on the NWS forecast for E wind on Sat. morning, and plan to go if conditions look favorable.

Weathercat(TM) dropped us a dot this morning. We are a GO. Repeat. We are a GO.

Unless something changes Lol

Translation for those new around here - the NWS hourly forecast now shows 9 gusting to 15. Usually when the wind forecast shows a gust (indicated by a dot above the wind prediction line on the graph), that's usually minimal wind needed for windsporting faster than displacement speeds ie planing, foiling, kiting, etc. Weathercat is the mythical creature that randomly taps on the keyboards at the NWS during the night hours so the forecasts look really good until the next morning when both the forecast and our hopes have faded.

" Mythical creature" ?

Jury still out on that

A cat with questionable motives walking on a keyboard causing the forecast model to be wrong is more palatable to me than an array of weather stations coupled with a bunch of very expensive computers running algorithms that took many years of development to generate a forecast that will miss the actual weather less than 6 hours out

That was a lot of fun. I stayed on the water 2hr45min, fouled about 21 miles. 6.4 was the right call - a little too much power at times, some pumping, little bobbing around, mostly blissful foiling. ?

Foiled 5.4 with modded tail on my small foil board which worked a treat (details coming in a separate post). About as much fun as one could as for. Langdon, Hamdi and I on windfoil. Ed on fin and 9.5. JP and Roland (looking good!) on wing. Dave D. on 14m kite. We left a bit on the table when we left but we all got a good session out of it.
