Fri/Sat June 17-18

Another Friday special? Let's see if we can make to the weekend without crashing the forecast again.

I'm in Friday after lunch, I think.

I plan on sailing Friday afternoon at Van Pugh. (I'm waiting on an updated forecast to decide about going Sat.)

Looking forward to breeze on Saturday. Much lower humidity (but still hot). Good
Confidence is high.

Saturday’s forecast wobbled a little but tomorrow after lunch firmed up. Keeping fingers crossed. I will arrive at around 12:00pm tomorrow, Friday. No wetsuit required!

Saturday looks nice. NWS model showing a big spike of rain chances mid- day but breezy afterwards. Keep an eye on the radar tomorrow.

Heat yesterday in the ATL was off the charts. Temps in the van driving down the road were in the 100s.

Started a little slow but picked up nicely.
Had a good time but that was probably one of the hottest sessions that I have done in a while. Should of drank a little more before going.

Hoping to be back around 9:30 Saturday morning

Re: Fri/Sat June 17-18

fun, fun, fun.

Yes, a stiff CF foil mast is noticeable. Has been a few weeks since I've been on a race sail. Had to work up the nerve to send it but was getting more comfortable as the afternoon wore on. The dark clouds on the horizon eventually got dark enough to call it quits. Lucky to have timed it well as the wind got frisky after (almost) everyone got off. All safe, accounted for and in the correct parking lot at the end. Biggrin

Big crowd - a couple of wings and bunch of windsurf/windfoilers.

Rinse and repeat tomorrow.

"almost everyone" it was me, note to self - check radar.

Van Pugh report, 9.30 am Sunday, no caps...yet. Park is busy but there is still parking available.

Edit, 10.45, still no caps and now No Parking places.

Change of plans, still no caps, don't want to sail alone, so there's about to be one parking place available, think I'll go home.

Another note to self - don't try to sail Lanier on the weekends, now through end of July.

I almost drove up, then swimming at the pool across the street from my driveway seemed much more attractive. Had a great swim, new personal record at 3250m (130 lengths). Glad I chose wisely though I do wish those making the trip would have gotten lucky as well.

Gene, Thanks for your post about conditions & parking filling up. It’s a long drive for most of us.

Chris, Channey, Haizar and I sailed from llsc. Pain to get out as wind was from almost due north. Channey wore the big pants- longboard and 9.5. Chris foiled 6.5 and I did 6. We were lit. 12-25. Gusts were pretty big. Top 2 second speed 22.2. Chop was weird because there was a big reflection off aqualand seawall so we had to sail below it to avoid total jibe follies. Chris skipped through one today. I had some amusing crashes. Glad it's summer time.

Oops, mind blanked. Left off Haizar's name. Probably because he spent so much time rescuing a group of young kids who were sinking a canoe with his boat. (True story) My apologies!

Edit - and screwed up the apology due to typing on a phone without glasses and misspelled Haizar's name. Blush

Re: Fri/Sat June 17-18

Sorry for the delays but I finally posted Pics and Videos for June 17th and 23rd. They are all under Van Pugh / 2022 06 June Pics or Van Pugh / 2022 June Videos.

Chris was the only one in the water on the 23rd while I was able to shoot pics, The 17th was a good assortment of folks.

Thanks
Robert
