Current top gear picks

I need another wing foil set up. Thinking non-boom to make things pack down smaller for travel. Thoughts on gear? I'll check used gear section in case something is avail.

What size(s) are you thinking about? Neil likes his F-One Strike 7.0. Seabreeze and Standup Paddle forums both seem active if you are looking for more opinions.

That F-One is popular. I have my eye on it. Where is a good place to find one? Not sure if north beach sells that brand.

Re: Current top gear picks

Hi JCS,
I think the good news is that most of the 3rd generation Wings are all very good. And most people argue that their pick is the best. I think the answer is that some Wings drift better when surfing and some have a bit more grunt to get flying. Owning 2 or 3 Wings to straddle different conditions helps. I use my 7m CWC Strike, 85% of the time. It’s light, no windows, and makes things easy to get flying. But it is a joy to drop down in size when winds get in the 12k plus range. I have a Takoon 6m, very light, no windows, a 5m Strike, and a 3.5m Armstrong V1…which I have never tried. I seem to always forget it when winds have climbed over 25k. My friends like the new Starboard Nitro and the Cabrihna. I think the new Slingshot 7.5m has gotten good reviews. Again, most of the new Wings are good.
As far as boards, arguably, my Armstrong 75L FG is a canidate for one of the best board out there. It has a great shape which allows me to routinely save breaches, jump, control in the surf, etc etc. it’s relatively expensive but absolutely no regrets or wants for anything else.
The foil debate keeps evolving. There’s so much innovation that companies seem to keep one upping each other. However, there’s the same dynamic where people have biases towards their own gear. Axis, GoFoil, F-One, Moses, Slingshot, Armstrong, etc all have good options. Probably more of a choosing the right size and aspect for your riding style. I am a firm believer at getting dialed into your gear as opposed to trying to buy your skill. I personally love the High Aspect foils in Flatter water but prefer a more mid aspect as the swells get bigger and steeper. I find in the surf, going fast isn’t the main goal. Staying in the sweet spot of the swell, isn’t a speed thing, more of a looser, maneuverability factor. I also like a slower stall speed when I am surfing rough choppy surf. Some say the Axis foils have found the right combo of higher aspect, but not too high!! Your welcome to try my gear if your in Atlanta or Vero Beach. Hope some of this helped.

The 7m CWC Strike seem like a good one. I wonder if there is a used place to look. Else where is a good place to order online?

MacKiteboarding.com indicates when their CWC’s get restocked. Epic Boardsports in Cocoa Beach often gets batches. I have only seen one for sale used and it was a rental center in the Canary Islands.
Unfortunately, most good wings don’t last long on the used market.
I am considering the new Ocean Rodeo 7m. $2,400 but I use my 7m a lot and having a really light one would be great.
