Windsurfing Isle of Palms

Windsurfing conditions have been good for a one-week family trip near Charleston to the Isle of Palms - 6 days of windsurfing and one day foiling. Rhett joined me for the last two days of wind and waves.

Re: Windsurfing Isle of Palms

Nice pics, sharp and fit looking family (especially the pair all the way on the right).
I am heading a little south of there today (hunting island) and there seems to be wind in the fx every afternoon. I was talking to Tim Carter at Hilton head yesterday and he said the same - that they typically get afternoon breeze pretty much every day this time of year and he has been windsurfing and foiling everyday,
Spells Trouble for me as I don’t (or shouldn’t?) have that kind of time as work and school are real busy these days (working from the camper and kayaking & taking walks with my wife), of boy!?

I've been to Hilton Head, but never been to Hunting Is. Please post photos of beach, campground & lodging so we can see what it looks like. Hope you have good wind every day, as we did.
Looking forward to your report.

Re: Windsurfing Isle of Palms

Nice, clean, quiet campground that has beach, marsh (kayaking), and 8 miles of hiking/biking trails. Some sites are right behind the dunes with sea breeze and sound of the waves but less tree cover, others like ours in the woods but 3-5min easy walk to the beach and trails

We had good wind 3 of 4.5 days we were there, though I only sailed 1 of those - too busy on one day, shorebreak looked brutal especially for foiling on the other. We did daily 2+ hr early morning walks on the beach followed by some swimming, sunset kayaking in the marsh after dinners, and some mid day quick swim/play with the waves. Work and school projects sprinkled in between ?. Great time overall.
Next 3 trips to the north GA mountain state parks - hiking focused, hopefully cooler than Atlanta weather. Then Turkey including few days at Alaçatı, which is pretty famous for all windsport activities.
Few pics attached

Re: Windsurfing Isle of Palms

Thanks for photos & report. Looks beautiful. Glad you had a great time.

At Isle of Palms I sailed all seven days of our stay, but only foiled one due to the risk of getting the foil through shore break to deep water. Also, the other days were windy enough to windsurf.
