How I'll always think of Meat Loaf– (spoiler alert: it doesn't end well for Eddie).

Things I did not know: on stage, Meat (Mr. Loaf) played both Eddie and Dr. Scott
NIce article about his stage version and then the movie: https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/meat-loaf-should-have-had-two-parts-in-the-rocky-horror-picture-show/

That time Meat Loaf was a softball coach: https://deadspin.com/meat-loaf-was-my-softball-coach-5821391

If Steve Vai ever complains of a bad back, he'll only have himself to blame. Biggrin As a totally junk guitar player (me, not him), there's so much going here it's really cool.

Interesting that vacuum tubes used right on the instrument. Apparently they are now used in music. Kind of like the resurgence of LP's. We had no idea how much better music was back in the day....

Guitarists have always liked their tubes

I love the production on this song - evokes memories of Phish/Porcupine Tree - just supports her voice so well.

That's on me. I always remember on Saturday. I could say I was also a member of a faith that prohibited any sort of work or computer use on the Sabbath but the reality is that I have the memory of a cockroach. That is, until Saturday. Lol So, what the heck. It's Monday and I have months of catch up to do.

I met Niko in Paros. He was a school mate of Dimitri, our correspondent and my host, who came to the US during college to pursue his passion for guitar. Niko ended up at Rhodes College in Memphis and was soon gigging around town. Eventually, he started doing session work which led to producing and ended up owning a recording studio. He's now retiring and moving back to Greece with his American wife. Super nice fellow and this clip shows off his incredible guitar chops.

We lost great one unexpectedly this week but I had the good fortune to catch him in concert this fall. His playing was as energetic and innovative as ever. Unlike a lot of old guard musicians, he didn't mail it in. His career covered a wide variety of styles. Just a couple of his tunes that I've enjoyed.
That I limited this to two songs took a bunch of restraint on my part. Biggrin

Jeff Beck Group Shapes of Things originally done by him in the Yardbirds. Rod Stewart on vocals and Rolling Stone guitarist Ron Wood playing bass

For all the old frogs who say guitar music is dead. The buzz on this solo has been keen among guitar afficianados. Yes, it's an older band but it's new music and it rips

Extreme - "Rise" (Official Video)

A cool bit of EDM/R&B (NSFW lyrics - a few f bombs)

From Rod Stewart's first album. Many of the backing players were an all-star lineup combo from Small Faces/Jeff Beck Group (where Stewart began) plus a cameo from Keith Emerson on organ and the producer, Lou Reizner, who helped with vocals.

Always enjoyed this song but didn't do a deeper dive into the band until after listening to Beck, Bogert and Appice - Jeff Beck's collab with the rhythm section after they broke up. The keyboard/singer's hand movements mimic what the Supremes did onstage.

The Stones at the top of their live performance era with Mick Taylor on lead guitar and Billy Preston on keyboards. I have an absolute soft spot for Taylor's guitar playing.

After Taylor left the Stones, he did this brief link up with Jack Bruce (of Cream).

Great tune. Yesterday had to be one of the muggiest days of the summer so far and add to it the Martian haze.Watching those guys crack up - I'm presuming from the usual thing, instead of playing it live. The guitarist is cutting up - 0:28 saying something that's not the lyrics (anybody lip read?) and around 1:13 when he stops playing the riff. Biggrin

John Sebastian bought his sideburns from the same store as Neil Young got his.

I saw John Sebastian years ago at a tiny venue on Hilton Head called The Old Post Office. It used to be a post office. He played, just him with an acoustic guitar and was great. He hung out after for a long time and chatted with everybody that wanted to. Super chill with that relentless smile. I saw him get into his van later and I thought - that’s a cool way for a rock star to retire.

Paul's When I'm 64. I used to play it for a girl I knew. Now, here we are... still with that girl, too.
