Thanks for recounting the story. It's new to me. Too bad GoPro camera's didn't exist at the time to capture your 15 ft. 100 ft. high jump!

Tourist stuff like the Japanese Tea Garden is great with family. The Cliff House at North Beach are old traditions if they are still there. Santa Cruz. Steamer Lane for surfing. In the Big Sur stop at Napenthe for lunch on the cliff , 500 hundred feet over the Pacific where waves crash onto the rocks.
Hope you can enjoy some of it. This could be the place for the convertible

Re: Who is up for sailing in the San Francisco Bay next weekend?

Just got back from a week in SF and was kiting at 3rd Avenue in San Mateo. It sounds like a quick trip but in terms of locations where I see windsurfers. (actually reading it looks like Barrett already mentioned some of these)

SF:
Crissy: incredible, but high consequences: strong currents + somewhat unpredictable conditions. People frequently getting rescued by the Coast Guard and getting shamed on local message boards :-). Good swap meet potential.

Peninsula:
Coyote Point (San Mateo): There's a small shop (Boardsports CA) and they might still do windsurf rentals (they also have a location in Crown Beach in Alameda) https://boardsportscalifornia.com/

East Bay:
Berkeley Marina: Cal Adventures (associated with UC Berkeley) - they may still do rentals, but not 100% sure. There's also Cal Sailing Club which is next door which also may do rentals, but I think you need to be a member: https://recsports.berkeley.edu/programs-events/cal-adventures/

(Also Crown Beach in Alameda, as mentioned above)

Sac River Delta:
Sherman Island: my favorite, but a little further away from SF. Much more consistent wind during the later months. Delta Windsports does rentals: https://deltawindsports.com/

I lived in SF for about 15 years and it was an awesome place to be doing windsports. April-October, wind turns on everyday at 3P on the mark. Depending on how interested you are - would also recommend John at KitetheBay, perhaps an expensive way to take a boat trip, but a fun way to get out onto the bay and give something new a try like winging.

Big thanks to everyone who have contributed to this post with great suggestions, pics, stories, and watch-outs. We are heading out tomorrow and plans aren’t solidified yet. If I can’t sail this time due to family commitments, I will at least try to check out the locations and rental places for future work trips where I can tack on a day or two with more flexibility. At any rate, great stories and pics alone was worth the post I think.
