I was thinking about a shorter session today, Friday. I spent more time socializing than sailing yesterday. Might do 1 or 2 sessions and head home around 2:15pm.
Anybody Else thinking about going or is this post not necessary because of the plethora of wind expected. Should I just assume the gang will be there. Forecast has a tiny bit of SW early, Is VP still the spot?

I am thinking of going if work doesn’t get crazy. According to the complex wind trigonometry chart and equations from Gene the wind-whisprer (whose alter-ego oddly happens to be the wind-eliminator), the direction is better for OF.
VP fans would likely feel otherwise though.
Considering West Point if it warms up about 60 degree’s more
Has anyone considered the weather cat may be the vandal, it’s always trying to throw a monkey wrench in our plans…..may be in cahoots with the duck.

The direction is better for getting off the beach but then you have to deal with the islands, much more limited sailing area and lighter days, the lesser amount of wind. If someone feels more comfortable going there, no arguments from me but outside special circumstances (e.g. summer VP craziness) each time I go, I get reminded of why VP has historically been higher on the list.
btw, yesterday the wind really steadied and cranked later in the day. I wouldn't be in a rush to get there.
I am planning on arriving around 10:45. Hmmmm, should I go to VP or Old Fed. I prefer to be with others.

I'm sailing at Van Pugh this afternoon.

Leaving my house now. Will arrive at VP around 11:00am. Prepared to Wing alone, but hoping someone shows up and is on the water before 1:00pm. Normally go by myself in FLorida but Usually have a large audience on the beach, which makes me feel a bit more secure.
Good luck. I carry a dry box (attached to the back of my harness) with a cell phone in it. Kind of bulky (more looking so than feeling it) but makes me feel better. Always a chance it could open up but, in addition to its latching mechanism, I have a strong Velcro around it and am willing to chance loosing a phone if both fail than be without it.
Just arrived 11:10 am Strong wind line across the lake. Little launching cove is more shadowed today. Probably have to paddle out 25- 30 yards There’s not one car in the whole parking lot so come get the spots…LOL

Arrived at Van Pugh too late to join Neil, but Hamdi was out hanging onto a 6.5 sail foiling. I was rigged just right on a 6.0m & 120 liter board windsurfing. William rigged down to a 4.2m foiling.
So glad I went. The wind was strong & fairly steady on the water. It shifted from W to NW and came into the cove as the afternoon went on. Toward the end William & I quit at 5PM as our hands got cold. No wonder, the temp dropped from 55º down to 45ºF.
Thanks to Robert B. who had a Nikon SLR with very long lens and took the following photos.

Neil gets the Early Bird award and Hamdi, once again, the IronMan - holding down the 6.4!
Opted to go small since the lulls weren't as deep as yesterday. Fun to flick that little sail around. Couldn't figure out why I was so cold all afternoon and my toes and fingers going numb until Barrett told me how cold it was in the parking lot.
Great pics! I was out for about 20 mins and decided to come in and grab the gloves. I guess if temps are around 55, the evaporation can really cool the hands down. I went for a walk around 5:00pm and I was chilly with a jacket on so 45 degrees sounds right! I had a couple wind shifts to the South which was weird blasting straight up the middle of the lake. That didn’t last long. I am skipping today but will be looking for the next opportunity. Neil
