After six years of hosting the Windsurf Midwinters, CCSC will pass the event along to the Rudder Club of Jacksonville and event chair Eduardo Rodrigues. We are thrilled to get this event back to the river! Eduardo Rodrigues and the Rudder Club have hosted several very well-run successful foiling regattas, and we are excited to see him open the venue up to the longboards as well.
So join us at the Rudder Club March 18-20 for the long-standing tradition of getting all the Windsurf Classes together in sunny Florida.
It's important to note that CCSC has not lost enthusiasm for hosting windsurf events; we think moving the regatta to the Rudder Club is the best thing for the sport. We love our venue, but there are two big reasons why running the midwinters is difficult in Clearwater.
1. Spring break on Clearwater Beach gets more popular every year. This period leads to ridiculous hotel prices, nasty traffic, difficulty eating out, and ever-increasing boat traffic.
2. Our smaller intercostal area forces us to split the longboards and foil boards. To keep things friendly to the whole fleet, we race the longboards in Clearwater Harbor in an area that is too small, often in very shifty winds, and with dangerous traffic from boats and jet ski rental. Assembling two race committees is very resource-intensive difficult and strains our resources to the max.
