Begin rant -
FB is, unfortunately, a necessary evil in reaching out to a wider windsport community. I'll save you my full diatribe about them but, simply put, I'm not a fan

One supposed benefit is the ability to "share" posts - content seen elsewhere can be shown on your page or group. I share 99.9% of the interesting things I see to one place only - our own little Windsport Atlanta group. So, what does FB do? Make it increasingly difficult to share by placing Windsport Atlanta lower and lower in the selection menu. Of the various groups I subscribe to, it's now near the bottom along with my jr high school group that hasn't seen a post in 2 years.

If you think that it's because they list the groups by alphabetical order, you'd be wrong. Also, two of the top groups that appear are either essentially dormant or I haven't visited in recent memory. It would appear that they are simply trying to modify my behaviour to post to other groups to increase their activity and the potential ad revenue from those groups getting more eyeballs and displaying ads.

One benefit of having our own site is that we are not some commodity sold to benefit someone's shareholders. Whatever your participation is here, it is not sold to the benefit of someone else. That's why I even stopped Google Analytics. I must admit that embedded media (videos, etc) does give something away but that seems a fairer exchange in that we are using their storage and bandwidth.
