Now they just need to use Alulla for the strut and leading edge.......

A number of people already mentioned it. OTOH, the cost goes up about $600

Looks great but the concern about the weight is legit.

The 5.2m is said to be 7.3 lbs. If that's correct that's a heavy wing. Might not be a issue with 18+ mph wind. But I'd think for light wind that would be a problem.

IIRC My Takoon is about 0.9 lbs per meter, Duotone Slick about 1.05lbs/meter with a boom. My 7m Gong was about 1.2 lbs per meter and the weight difference was very noticeable, I'd call that Gong model a heavy wing. I can't imagine the X wing's 1.4 lbs/meter in light wind. Time will tell.

I think Roland is onto something. Maybe those with unpleasant experience can tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that tears in the canopy are not nearly as big of a deal as tears in the strut or leading edge. At least from a sewing perspective, seems it would be much easier to repair the canopy. So I question if all that extra weight from x-ply is really that useful. Having a full kite window seems nice though since it seems a lot of users complain the windows are not quite right in a lot of models.

Maybe you wing is not obsolete quite yet. Seems like a very big problem to me though some are saying the guy shouldn't have even posted it. I think that's BS. The x-ply stitching is simply inadequate unless this was a error in making this one wing.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw they just stitched through the grid. That's an accident waiting to happen and Mr Love confirmed my suspicions. He's the designer behind KA Sails. Funny how those quick to attack the poster ignored his comment.
If it were simply a goof at the factory, that's one thing but they really need to revisit the construction methods. The design seems sound but I'm sure they'll end up revising how they do the seams. This is with fresh monofilament. Give it a few hours in the sun and a few crashes and these will be zippering apart.
Interesting reading though. Thanks for sharing

It seems pretty clear from looking at the Real video that all of the x-ply seams were simply sewed together w/o reinforcement. Every x-ply seam on every wing could be subject to failure. Time for a product recall? This one may take a while to sort out. I'm not too sure they could even reinforce the seams after the fact but that may be what's needed.

You would assume this would have turned up in testing though, so who knows what happens next.

I missed that but who would have thought? You win today's award for sharp-eyed consumer.

His seabreeze post said he simply was "warranteed". Did you get more info elsewhere?

If Reedin didn't step up, that's absolutely a bummer as I don't think this will be the last claim especially when these wings get a few months in the sun.

Yeah, l PMed him.
They offered to replace it, but only with the same exact thing so... It took a lot on his part to get the refund.

Thanks. Always nice to get the real story and get some insight. It really gets annoying when fanboys of a brand can't even hear that something might be wrong even when a noted sailmaker is telling you that it's a problem. The same people in a year will be telling you what a great thing it is when the seams get re-enforced.

Takuma joins the game with x-ply on back half of the wing - combat flutter?
