Thursday - Wind or Wet?

Dots from the NWS for Thursday which also coincides with rising probability of precip.

Warm southwest wind which will either be a
a) precursor to rain
b) coincident with rain
c) all of the above

I'd hate to get wet windsurfing... but I would if it were breezy.

The beauty of it is we will probably never know.

I have been asked to share this email with the members of this group:

"Dear Windsurfers, Kitesurfers, Wingers and whatever you call yourselves,

Here is what you will see on the Gilmer webpage until you pay my Swiss Bitcoin Account One Bitcoin. I can wait longer for your money than you can wait to waste your time, not getting up on the foil, blowing jibes, getting launched, uphauling your sails and just in general windfailing.

Sincerely, A Friend"

Maybe they accept carbon foils - similar value.

Looks like a good bit of South to it. I want to go after noon just not sure where to go?

Re: Thursday - Wind or Wet?

imho
Better breeze - channel out of Van Pugh
Less paddling to get to breeze - Old Fed

The windline at VP can be a couple of hundred yards out on a good SW but, once out, you're good. A lot of times you can coast most of the way in. Tony made it to the last 50 yds the other day. But if you want to get in the water and go, Old Fed for sure.

Re: Thursday - Wind or Wet?

Roland,

There are a few "out of the way" places you might consider if they are convenient for you. 2 Mile is good on SW, and getting out to the wind is not too difficult. The boat ramp is the main place to launch from though you could park there and carry your gear a short walk to the park and launch from the shore. Kieth's Bridge is also a good launch for SW. Al has used both for winging and seems to like them pretty well. At KB, he uses a shortcut through the woods to get to a good access point. I mainly sailed longboards from there, so I could just launch from the little cove back in the day.

Lacking any data from Gilmer, LLSC's webcam is next best thing. As of 11:20 at least it doesn't look good. SW is a good direction for the cam.

12:15 still looks the same. That's about as glassy as it gets.

Nonetheless, loading car because it's too pretty to stay home.

Edit: just checked Windy.com Light rain to the west but a ton of stations around showing 9-11.

The phone at Gilmer still works but not the web page. Still glassy at the sailing club. Last call 12-18 @ 250. 770-532-4687 in case anyone forgot.

VP live report 6-8 ? Very flat light so hard to tell. Wind up in the trees. Very SW so not very wing friendly here at the moment unless you have a floaty board

Re: Thursday - Wind or Wet?

We got about 20 minutes of spicy, 49 minutes of nice and then it went down to 5-7

Fun while it lasted.

Meanwhile, the Gilmer web page has vanished:

Re: Thursday - Wind or Wet?

Weird. Not to mention I would love to know how hard it blew for that bit around the rain.

I may call down to PTC and see if they can shed some light on the situation.

Re: Thursday - Wind or Wet?

Nice response from Ryan Willis of NOAA today

Quote:
Good afternoon,

I apologize for the delayed response to your initial message. At that time there was a communications problem with the observing site at Gainesville. Fortunately, that problem has now been resolved, and you should notice the current observations have returned to the web page.
