Good day in spite of the long aggravating shlogg to the wind line.

I may try Old Federal this afternoon (Thursday) around 2 or 3, if it blows.

Rhett is at Van Pugh rigging and Barrett's on the way. Guess I'm headed to Van Pugh.

Did anyone go Thursday. Curious about how strong the wind was.

Cheers,

Big waves at Hartwell !

I’m curious whether one tack is better there for jumps in NW wind. It’s always starboard tack favored at VP (so I’m completely at a loss for port tack jumps). Sorry 2

Alex,

It came up and blew some from around 3.30 to 5.30 Thursday. At Van Pugh, Rhett and I foiled on 5.2s and Barrett foiled on 6.7, and Roland winged. I'm guessing 10 to 20 mph, was fun.

well....first, I'm not a jumper (yet?). Second, winds didn't really turn as NW as we were expecting yesterday. They pretty much oscillated on either side of W for majority of day, only shifting more towards NW when we were trying to get back to landing at Green Pond (which, BTW, rendered the last hundred + yards home into a hole-ridden, shifty bear! argh!!!)

And finally, in all my other experience with sailing westerlies from Green Pond, heading south into the open part of the lake on starboard tack very often seems to have one sailing more directly into the swells than when heading northwards on port tack. And I trust thereinlies your answer (and the answer you were hoping against? sorry. But come up and show me/us how it's done!!! Yes 3 )

It’s a thing on any kind of southwest to north winds at VP. I wish somebody would splain it to me...

My take: refraction (sort óf) The most wave energy comes down the long fetch from the dam and 3 sisters islands. That's SW/W. Even if the wind is NW, the energy further down the lake wraps around the 3 sisters gap. It's kind of like being at the beach and no matter the wind direction, the waves mostly break straight on shore. I'm on my phone so I can't draw it out.
