Thursday - April Chill Day the 1st

I may be able to grab the end of the session as I have to be up in Commerce at 2 pm.

Last winter session of the year? Highs in the upper 40s. Winds NW 20-30. That means gusts. Biggrin

Same here

If I can go, it’ll likely be Old Fed

Van Pugh is much better for NW winds.

Got to VP around 2:45, assessed the conditions, decided i would have more fun mtn biking -too cold plus high wind for me. Maybe if I have brought the 3.7 sail with me OR if it was warmer or both (or if i was a more competent sailor) but oh well...

Ps: this is not an April fools joke either.

Missed today as I was meeting someone to deliver a board. Looked like a brilliant day.

Not to worry though, I'm playing the long game. The buyer lives in Ft. Lauderdale. Now I have another tour guide when I visit when the weather turns cold next fall. Biggrin

You only missed cold fingers and a lot of frustration.
5 to 25, hard to sail.

Fin or foil?

Fin at first 115l board w/5.5.
Switched to JP124 and it was better for gliding through the holes. Then I wanted to be like Gene and put a foil on the 124 but forgot to move the mast foot back and was having a hard time maintaining altitude, skipping off the swell tops.

It wasn’t a terrible day but it was a lot of work.

Sounds like for once I made the right call to cut my losses (despite how bad that feels due to long drive), bail out within 5min of arriving at VP, and catching a fun mtn bike session.

It works - sometimes. Last Saturday, I got to Old Fed and there wasn't squat on the water and ended up taking a nap in the van. Warm sunshine, gentle breeze and not enough sleep the night before was the perfect mix. Langdon texted me an hour later and woke me up. The wind was starting to fill. By the time he arrived (and by this time we had roped Gene in), it had actually picked up to 10-18 and we had a solid hour and a half.

Sometimes it pays to wait, sometimes it doesn't. Like so much in life, it depends. Biggrin

No question, patience would pay off sometimes. For me, it’s usually more important to catch another activity (rowing, mtn biking, etc) then take the chance and potentially not get in any activity. I guess it depends how badly I wanted to sail vs be ok with another activity that I also enjoy. If I haven’t sailed in a month, I will likely be more patient and chance no activity (beyond napping that is ?).

I think you’re just FL spoiled. I get that way after a great FL trip -which is much more sporadic than your trips- and i thought i sensed that in Langdon after his last FL trip. And Langdon in my observations is the role model of patience.

I made two trips upwind all the way past the sailing club about even with the island off of Vanns. First trip overpowered and I could have definitely been fine on the 5.4. True, I was using a new plusplus style fuse (ie like the Starboard 115++) with the wing forward. Also true that I was out in the main channel where the wind wasn't as gusty. Langdon mentioned that he waited too long to get out there. New fuse made it super easy to go upwind.

I wouldn't say you suck... honestly, it was a day while great for foiling that none of us would have had fun on a fin. By that measure alone, you are way ahead of the game. Good
