Re: It's Friday: Post some music that you like and want to share

The Coliseum in Athens, (Georgia) has the acoustics of a cave. To hear a band there you had to be very near the front row or the echoes made the music sound wretched. I was right up front in 1973 for, I think, an Allman Brothers concert. The opening act was some L.A. band with the weird name, Steely Dan. I’d never heard anything like them. I was blown away, man. So cool and tight. Been a big fan since first hearing Do It Again, the opening number. They only toured once back then, being more a studio kind of band... lots of different players sitting in for just the right sound. (Did see them at Chastain just a few years ago). Hey Nineteen (1970) always satisfies. The album, Aja (1977) was part of the soundtrack of some formative years- fantastic!

Speaking of Steely Dan.
I was just watching this earlier, I though they were lip syncing at first but they are just a really good Steely Dan cover band.

For the music geeks out there: Brian Wilson's genius for those not familiar (and think he just wrote some cheesy surf and GTO songs). 24 yr old kid telling the best session players (Wrecking Crew) in the world how to play.

Behind The Sounds: God Only Knows Parts 1 and 2

A great video about and intro to Steely Dan
Steely Dan: More Than Just a Band

And now just to f* with your expectations. Metal? J-Pop? Why not both? But, definitely not soothing or mellow. If mixing chocolate and peanut butter isn't for you, probably give this one a miss. btw, the chocolate and pb don't mix until about 2 min in. Biggrin

Re: It's Friday: Post some music that you like and want to share

It's Saturday, late as usual.

I remember listening to this song, part of the 80s "New Wave". It was among the refreshing power pop songs from the 70s and 80s which included the likes of Big Star, REM, the Cars, etc.

Someday, I'll do a post about Album 88, GA State's radio station which back then pumped out some of the best new music in the nation. So many songs...

Thanks, I enjoyed that, and would love to hear more Album 88 (Left on the Dial, Right on the Music). 90.5 WUOG was my station in those days!
Here is Atlanta's own 'The Brains" from the same era.

Re: It's Friday: Post some music that you like and want to share

It's been a while - somehow Fridays have been busy and I find it's Monday and I haven't posted anything and then I feel bad until Thursday when my mind goes blank for the next 48 hours.

Just wanted to share with anyone out there with digital radio in their vehicle that the great Album 88 (GSU station 88.5) whose main broadcast got co-opted by GPB has the good stuff on the digital stations 88.5-2 and -3. -2 is still the cutting edge student stuff like always and -3 is the cool stuff from years gone by (heavy on the 70s). Not the stuff you usually hear on "Classic Hits" but the actual stuff we listened to. Better, they just don't play the one song by this or that band but the cool stuff on the album because back then, we'd buy the album and listen to every song on it.

The first song is easy
Atlanta Rhythm Section - Doraville

Steely Dan - Bodhisattva

Great example - heard this a few weeks back and it was super cool and never imagined it was the same guy who did the pop songs. A bit of a Stevie Wonder vibe
Gino Vannelli - Powerful People

An interesting song from the time
Danny O'keefe ~ Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues

A project he's in
Cardinal Black - Warm Love

I admit that I'm terribly late to the party with this
Joe Pass - "Ain't Misbehavin'"

Rick Beato (ATL resident) says this is his vote for the greatest music solo ever. Even if it's not, it's good enough to warrant a listen.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Oscar Peterson

Duane Allman & Boz Scaggs ~ ''Loan Me A Dime'' 1969

I've never seen so many "over-qualified" rhythm guitarists Lol The title leaves out some monsters, too.

No Time (1992) Ringo Starr, Burton Cummings, Joe Walsh and Todd Rundgren at Montreux

Re: It's Friday: Post some music that you like and want to share

I think I posted Al with Chicago before but here's Al Green by himself. I was riding on the Silver Comet earlier this week and ended up behind an older man Black man (still, he was younger than me... Blush ) who was playing music. It took me a minute until I recognized the voice - Al Green. So I sped up a bit and asked if I could ride behind him just to enjoy the tunes. After a few miles, he was a bit gassed as he was hustlling home to beat the darkness. I asked him if he wanted me to pull a bit (him drafting behind me) and he latched on. It was a pleasure pulling him the last few miles from home in exchange for the excellent tunes. Here's to both Al and all the nice people I've ridden with on the Comet.

Al Green - Love and Happiness

Of all places - was sitting in a hotel having breakfast (one of those complimentary deals) when heard two great upbeat songs in the background music. Maybe it will get you up and going for a sail, cycle, hike or whatever else you have the chance to do this weekend

Baker Brothers - Once I Had A Friend

Macy Gray - Lately
