Thursday - Need we say more?

Warmish 15-20 SW. Save me a parking spot. I'm voting VP even with the wind shadow. I want some tasty swell action out in the channel.

Be aware; nasty weather coming through early morning though.

Re: Thursday - Need we say more?

I am hoping to be at the lake tomorrow, as usual depending on work.
I was assuming OF due to wind shadowing. I can’t say I have much experience with it - as with any aspect of wind sports really Smile - but that’s what I thought i always heard (OF best for SW, or LLSC if that is an option).

I vote for VP. Unless the wind is really SW, I'll probably head to Van Pugh.

In the case of the Walker vs NWS, the test result says...

Van Pugh can be a pain for windsurfing bigger SW days since you have to schlog way out on a smaller board.
Guess I’ll try some small sail foiling tomorrow at VP.
It’ll probably be easier on my knee to be above the chop anyway.

Schlogging doesn’t sound like much fun regardless of the board - at my level, that translates to even more pain in getting back to the launch. If I can make it, still thinking OF best for me experience level.
Where’s Gene - he would have told us the degrees and all...
I might swing by VP on the way back to see if Langdon is still using his massive shovel wing with this wind Smile

Re: Thursday - Need we say more?

If I make it tomorrow I will use the snow shovel and a small sail or if the forecast is correct, a beach towel .

Edit
Big wing thing, especially on Lanier.
Love the big wing. High wind, low wind does not make much difference to it.
It allows me to stay in control better. It slows things down. I can follow the chop and swell better without ventilating on the backside of a wave. I have not had any trouble with breaching or "too much lift". It may not be as fast as the I76 but I swim and uphaul much less now.

Howard Park in Tarpon Springs - 5.2 Foil Yesterday, 5.2 Foil/Fin/Foil today. And the next couple of days also look good, but,,,,,
the south wind and sun and heat are wearing me down. And Spring Breakers make parking tuff.

Van Pugh versus Old Fed with SW wind - at Van Pugh you dont know how hard it's blowing until you slog out to it. So you could ride by Old Fed to get a wind reading and then go to Van Pugh and slog out to the wind line? Or?

They should have reserved parking for Tarpon locals.
Want me to call Ron for you?

Gusts to 30-35 today. NWS Wind Advisory. Winds from the west. Leave the big stuff home, it's going to be woolly out there around 3 pm.

Edit: not sure I'll have time to grab my smaller stuff and get there today. Forecast is showing wind for the next 3-4 days so not feeling the need to go out and get pounded today as I need to be home early tonight.

Seems like a wise choice. Interesting current reading. Kind of says what kind of day this might be though the gusts are expected to be higher.....

Re: Thursday - Need we say more?

I think most or all are going to VP and things might be different there but in thought I would still report in case it helps:
OF live at 2pm: some white caps, fairly flat. Plenty for foiling but not as gusty as I thought it would feel. Brought my 3.7 - definitely not for that and Langdon’s snow shovel should feel nice if VP is like here.

Re: Thursday - Need we say more?

I didn't have time for a long session so here's the short version: blowing 10-20 with a bit stronger gusts when I got there. Rhett was out on a 5.5. Alan was on a 4.7. Chris P eventually went out on a ? and Barrett finned a 7.0. Roland was winging a 7. I foiled a 4.7. It was kind of off and on and clearly not as advertised... until it was. The switch came on around 4 and filled in to a pretty solid 25 for about 20 min or more. I had to scamper in and Ed showed up while others made adjustments. The air was nice around 70 but the water is still chilly.

Feeling bad that we suggested to Ed that a 7.5 would probably work instead of a 6.5. As if it matters - either one would have been the wrong call.
