viewpoints of 2 FL kiters - short version: ocean swells, learning without lessons and minimal winds goes to wings, big wind, big air and weeds goes to kites
Even though the wings look more like kites than sails, I think wingfoil is more like windfoil than kitefoil or kitesurfing. I could be wrong but I think more windsurfers are "converting" to wings than kitesurfers. I've noticed some of the kitesurf shops have not been all that aggressive about carrying wings.
I think kitesurfers should all get wings though. As Karl Marx said "Kitesurfers of the world get wings - you have nothing lose but your strings."

Looks like everyone loves the new kid in town. Maui market share for Slingshot: 30:1 for wings. Pro tip for my kiter friends - should be lots of good deals on used kiting gear in the next year or so. The great windsurf->migration 15-20 years ago loosened up an amazing amount of cheap and good windsurf gear.

Maybe maybe not. I've noticed that the Ikitesurf classifieds have lots of used wings for sale. Could be kiters are trying them, but not loving them. Or just perpetually gear upgrading?? Anyway - if you are searching for a wing that is the place to look.

Good tip, thanks and my wife hates you. I just took a quick look - a lot of 3-5mm wings. A few 6s. Probably some are finding they don't need a small wing (thanks, Robbie for telling us we just needed a 4) and some rotation into 2021s. Wingers seem to buy more gear than anyone I've seen. I think most have an intravenous feed from places like Mackite.
"Lots" is relative. 125 wings for sale and 2269 kites. Good news is a lot of those look decent if you are going for a 5 or 6. My micro sample size of wingers I know seem to be favoring 7s for light air.
The wing guys remind me of the kiteskiiers back in 1995.

Discussion elsewhere - biased towards wings, of course.
