March 1-Galts Open

For the few interested, Galt's lower parking & beach area open on March 1.

BTW, the water is really low. Prepare for a hike to get to the water. Long fins & foils beware.

Galts can fill up really quick though. I remember once it went up 4 ft in one day. But yeah - kind of a risky place for long, expensive appendages on your board this time of year. Was a good time of year for my kiteboat though.

Meant to thank you for the pics. While the water is down, perhaps a foiler who lives nearby can scope things out so when the water comes back up, we'll know if there are places that are "gotchas". Unlike places with sandbars, hitting bottom in N. GA will likely end badly.

Eddie O. showed a bear footprint at Galts around this time of year once. It was Scary Big.... I don't think they have bears on Mars. Your pix are great. Last time I went there this time of year I got kicked out.

Because of automated cropping that we do for the site, Bill's excellent panoramas are squished.
Here's links to the full versions (fyi, they're big)

Here's the current water levels. Is this correct? Basically shows they just filled up the lake in two weeks - 825 to 848. Shok

I'd find it more persuasive if the bear would just move. Then again, it could be explained as the faking of a Mars probes. I'll stick with it being a dark rock on Mars....

I got kicked out just after taking the pics. The lady attendant was nice about it though.

Probably the same on who kicked me out. She was nice, but it is annoying considering the beach was open for years before it started closing down 4 or so years ago.

First time ever that a NASA probe gets thrown off a planet by the lady at the gate.
