Good question, looks like red has a greater than 10 mph difference between avg and gust.

I'm only guessing but I think the the red arrows are really indicating the gust numbers. So you have today 7-16 is blue and 7-18 is red. The problem is that gust forecasts are pretty much none-sense when you have the average wind below 10 or so. I almost never give credence to a 7-18 forecasts. It most likely means wind is fluttering around 7.

Thursday looks like a mess. Those gusts with rain usually mean, like Randy said, not much wind until too much in the middle of a shower and then not much wind again plus a 180 degree wind shift in the middle of the afternoon.

It'll feel like you are reaching for chocolate cake but instead you keep stubbing your toe and the cake is all dry and tasteless.

I'm an idiot though and I've chased worse. When you need another hit of that wind dragon, common sense flies out the window.

BTW - the wind models don't even do that great of a job on wind, but that is what they do best. They are pretty unreliable for most other weather - temperature, rain etc. The NOAA model seems good for wind in the short run (a few days) but are much better on the other variables.

Tuesday looks good up at Hartwell. Warmer and breeze for WSW.

Thursday reminds me of the spring tornado set up. With that much change in wind direction and gustiness, twisty things seem more likely. Weather blogs have mentioned that the weather patterns in the next few months will favor this kind of set up.
