Wednesday starting to look like a decent east day. May be good to drag the refurb formula out for a try.

Bring a snack and hot beverage in a thermos to hang for socially distanced conversation. Should be nice ventilation with the breeze so we can stay safe and still chat.

Psyched to Foil with the ATL crew. If anybody wants to talk about the Wing thing I would be happy to share what I have experienced so far. If you know how to Windsurf you have half the equation, if you know how to WindFoil, then, IMO, you'll be WingFoiling in a matter of minutes or hours, not days. The foil part is the tricky aspect, but of course, the most fun. Hope to see you tomorrow...hoping to arrive around 11:30am at VP.

Wish I could join you- It would be great to see you all again! My windsurfing gear will be at the St. Simons Surf Sailors location and at our Brunswick get-away. Anyone heading up there needing company out on the water is welcome to reach out (pm me on FB). A new Duotone Unit wing should be delivered before Christmas! So excited to get into wing foiling on the surf at the Golden Isles and other sundry locations:). Deciding on a sup and foil rig for surfing and winging. 2021 here we come and stoked as ever! Stay well and Happy Holidays! Mimi

So excited for your next step. That sounds like a great location for winging. Hope to dabble in it myself this spring. Neil keeps pushing me but my eagerness is directly proportional to the water temps. Lol

We'll definitely come visit! Thanks for checking in,

Barrett brought coffee cake. It was really good! With the coffee in my thermos, it was the perfect after-sail snack.

Wind was not as much as advertised but generally 10-18 to 12-20 and the warmer temps, lower 50s, made up for it. Tony and Neil winged; Chris, "Piano Man" Steve and I foiled and Barrett finned.

Very pleasant day only cut short by coming in to make sure I got some coffee cake. Biggrin

Suzie, a relative, made this custom mask that I felt compelled to open before Christmas and wear at today's Holiday party.

Re: Monday - Holiday Party at Van Pugh

Stephen and I had a great afternoon on Hartwell, from between about 1 right up until 5:30 sunset. We were each on 6.6s, and with the wind waxing and waning through the day, that proved just about the best choice. We launched down on the larger, southern section of the lake, and had some great ~ 2.5 mile runs up and down the open water length of it.

and on a side note...I've puzzled before over the curiously shaped "cut-out" (clear, single layer area with no reinforcement threads) in my Ezzy sail. But today I learned it's purpose: to give me a good view of Stephen wizzing past to leward Sorry 2 Lol

Merry Christmas, all! (and what a good way to ring in the first day of winter!!!)

Well....singing pines would have been the launch of choice, but it's closed for the winter (except for it's boat ramp - difficult launch spot for windsurfers). Sadlers Creek State Park would have been a good choice, but we knew we'd want to be on the water right up until sunset and feared we might get locked in. SO...we rung up our friends at Big Water Marina (between the other two) and they kindly gave us permission to utilize an old road bed on their property leading out to a small peninsula and beach that gave us pretty clean/easy access to open air and water.

It was a great little spot (for a couple of cars), and I get the feeling they were making a kind exception for us yesterday.

And correction to earlier comment after reviewing googlemaps: we had single-tack runs from the dam northwards and back, to where the lake narrows, that were 3.5 miles long. Wind direction was perfect for it.

(and here's a nice little pic I lifted from an old friend on facebook who just happened to capture a great ariel angle of the bulk of Hartwell on a recent Cessna flight. I obviously added a bunch of labels.)

Great info and understand why this one won't be added to the wiki. I think Long Point is probably also closed now - it was closed last winter although with Covid, it may still be open.

Those are long runs. Hope the legs weren't burning too bad.

Yes, I can confirm that Long Point - and Elrod Ferry - are closed (in addition to Singing Pines) Dropped by both a couple of weeks ago. (although the boat ramp at Elrod Ferry remains open, on the near north side of the park. I haven't scoped it out much, but seems like it would offer reasonable access to NW through NE winds, with one probably having to walk their gear down the boat ramp itself.)

Re: Monday - Holiday Party at Van Pugh

Langdon and I sailed Elrod last Jan from the boat ramp on a WSW. Had to eek out about a 100 yds but then it was surprisingly good. The low surrounding terrain compared to Lanier seemed to let the wind down to the water pretty well. We were getting pretty decent rides all the way across and back.
