Oct 24-25 42nd Annual Fall Classic Regatta Covid Edition

Because of possible water contamination issues, we are postponing to the weekend of Oct 24-25. We apologize for any inconvenience but we want to keep every one safe.

Keeping the tradition and our streak alive! The Atlanta Fall Classic is the longest running windsurfing event in the country– 2020 marks 42 years! We haven't been stopped by hurricanes (Michael 2018) nor will Murder Hornets of 2020 stop us. However, we heard there was a bug going around so we'll be doing things a bit differently this year...

Fall Classic 2020

Unlike years past of having a big weekend with lots of us in close proximity, we'll be having a one day event on the weekend of Oct 17-18. On Wednesday, October 14th, we'll make the call on which day, based on the forecast. There is a $20 entry fee to cover trophies and incidentals. We have a really swell shirt again this year– heavy weight, long sleeved & embroidered. The shirt is optional and also just $20. There is no pre-registration. Camping at the club is available for the weekend (free) and the bathrooms are open. The kitchen is closed so we won't have any formal meals or indoor gatherings. It's BYO food, drinks and gear this year, (so you can have it your way)! See the attached Notice of Race for more info.

As always, the Fall Classic is not all about racing. It's a great time of year for just camping and hanging out at Lake Lanier Sailing Club in beautiful Flowery Branch, Georgia! Please join us if you can.

I don't deserve a free entry, but I'd appreciate it. I highly value this event - I hope to bring one or both of the teens :-). William and Chris are the man!

The shirt. Debi says this color is plenty macho. Good

It's not for sure yet but it's looking like Sunday could be the call. If you are planning to come, please register here - https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/21437#_docs (You don't need to be a US Sailing member as you might first think inside the registration link). It's just $10 to enter but I'll still need a few bucks to cover trophies. We can settle up at the race. (Don't forget the free entry contest for this part). We will be sharing the course with Lasers, A cats and other boats but if 5+ of us show up, we'll get a separate start. Start time on the water if Saturday is 11:30a, 10:00a if Sunday. The NOR that supersedes ours is at the link above with other info. Socially distanced trophy giving and telling of lies to follow racing, at the LLSC beach. See you there!

Re: Oct 24-25 42nd Annual Fall Classic Regatta Covid Edition

Sunday is the day! The forecast is for great weather, (maybe less great wind but it'll still be fun). Be sure to register at the Regatta Network link: https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/21437#_home including through to the pay part. The admin guy said it looked like some registrations weren't complete because they didn't finish the $ section. Once registered, you'll get any notifications or changes via email including the Sailing Instructions which will be posted there on Friday.

The Sunday start is at 10 a.m. and with the forecast wind, the starting area will be a little way from shore. Plus getting off the lee shore will take some extra time... plan for it. The club is open on Friday so if you want to rig and/or sail before Sunday, come on up. Free camping on site too. I'm not sure how much boat support will be available to us on the water so a camelbak thing might be a good idea. We have a few door prizes thanks again to Sandy Point and of course some swell shirts. This year's color is TOPAZ !

I had trouble using my smart phone. Worked fine on my computer.

Noticed William's sail number is the "Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything"

My sail number is just a literary allusion to windsurfing. Yes 3

If anyone needs a longboard, message, email or text me. I may have one available.

The SIs are available at the link above. Can somebody print a few copies and bring them?

I will print a few and bring them. Will we have a sport fleet or race as one big fleet, sail size limit? Didn’t see that addressed in the sailing instructions.

See who shows up and figure it out, I reckon. One start, one course probably.

I would prefer pontoon boat. Is that ok?

I've been behind on things this week - we'll give out the free entries tomorrow at the race among those who registered and paid. As long as you register, you have a chance to win. No getting wet required. See you tomorrow!

Richard G, Bill H. and John J. were recipients of the freebie registrations. Big thanks to Chris, Debi, David W for all the work in organizing and support. Good turnout for a rainy, light wind Sunday morning. Details to come. Everyone agreed we should do this more often than once a year.

If you don't have a longboard, go find one while they are still cheap.

Great day on the water with fellow windsurfers ... ?
Big thanks to Debbie, Chris and David !
Attached some pictures showing serious discussions and swimming abilities... How to cross the finish line when the wind died... And Willian demonstrating his catching abilities (with Debbie as back up).

Yep, fun day even though the wind went to nothing at the end of the second race.
Thank you Chris and Debbie
And thanks again to Peelskid for dragging us back in

Totally agree. A great day on the water. Even with light winds we still got in two races. The streak continues. Looking forward to #43 next year.

Many thanks also to Sandy Point Progressive Sports (Aerotech Sails, Epic Gear, Exocet & Kona) for donating door prizes. They have been consistent supporters of every Fall Classic I've been involved in. Steve, Marty and Cody are just good people. Good Gene fostered that relationship many years ago and they've been with us all along.

Thanks, Chris, for mentioning them. I've updated the photo gallery to credit their long and continued support.

Edit: just posted a pic of Bill's super Fall Classic masks in the gallery
