There's a thread on seabreeze right now involving that. Gist is since modern sails don't have separate batten pockets - the pockets are made by overlapping the panels - it's not as big a deal compared to other aspects of the sail, e.g. camber rotation. Top of NP sails are more aligned though.
And winglets to reduce tip vortices
How about a wing sail, optimized for one direction and Luderitz conditions?
