Puctured wing and bladder repair.

Lesson number 63. The Wing-ding and the stabilizer don't get along. So now I have a 2.5" hole in the leading edge of my Takoon 7m.

I have a kit that came with the wing looks like a stick on 4x4" patch for the bladder. And a 4x6" stick on fabric patch.

I haven't found any helpful YouTube videos yet. I'm suspect that a stick on fabric patch will be good for the inflated leading edge. Or does it need a professional sewing.

So I'm looking for suggestions. Is there anyone local that can do this kind of repair. Or is this a DIY kind of thing. I really want to get this repair right.

Paging SpanishAlex and Dave DeLozier...

Also, Reggie sent his busted Naish to a guy in Texas who fixed it pretty cheaply. I"ll message him and get him on this thread.

Neil blew out his 6.0 Friday by adding a touch extra pressure.

Sorry about this. Foiling can definitely be a crash/bang sport sometimes. You should see my sizeable investment in epoxy and cf. Sorry 2

Edit: Messaged Reggie and Alejo. Hopefully, they'll chime in with some info here. Good luck.

Yeah I probably a little too careless with my gear. I saw the wing flapping towards the foil and I could have stopped what I was doing and grabed it. But nooo, not me, as I debated the odds of the Wings puncturing the wing to myself... Pow... Odds were pretty good.

Yeah, it doesn't look too big so you could probably patch it but I usually think of a patch being temporary till I can get it fixed right.

"fixmykite.com" has fixed a number of my kites, I expect they are doing wings. You can take a picture of it and they'll quote it from that, usually pretty reasonable!

That might be Reggie's guy. He did a pretty fast fix and a very reasonable price. Reggie was pretty worried that his wing was toast.

I agree with David. On the LE, a tear that size you want to get sown professionally for the long haul. The patch could be a session or vacation saver.
I also have send over more kites than i like to admit to fix my kite down in Texas over the years. They guarantee the repair for life and pricing is always very reasonable. Nothing but good things to say about them.

Can't go wrong with Fixmykite. Almost no wind season here - no need to rush into a quick and dirty repair.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

Seems I am the last one to reply (had some busy days!). You can send it to fixmykite ( i am estimating 125-150 bucks for dacron repair and bladder plus shipping - ask them to use their shipping since they get 20 bucks each way). Or do it yourself (spending about 15 bucks in materials and assuming you have a sewing machine). There are plenty of videos of kite repairs online but in summary:

(1) You would get the bladder out which I assume you need to fix too (that one an adhesive patch will do)

(2) You get a square piece of Dacron bigger that the area of the cut and you glue it on.

(3) You sew around the perimeter of the Dacron square you got (you need thread that works with Dacron - check SAILRITE and get Hembob V-69 Style A White Polyester UV. You follow a diagonal partern around the permiter.

(4) Once that is done you cut off the extra original material INSIDE of the stitched perimeter of the new Dacron piece. To get inside the dacron there should be a zipper on the leading edge that you can unzip and reverse.

Should be about 1 hr of work assuming you know how to use a sewing machine (check the videos to thread tension recommendations)

Bests,

Alex

Big thanks to all the experienced riders who shared their wisdom, experience and knowledge. I appreciate your helping newer riders get and stay on the water. Good

On a humorous note: I see that our wing and kite friends have a level of familiarity with fixmykite.com approaching mine with fiberglasssupply.com Lol

No doubt. Very helpful crowd here, even Gene can at times can be a little helpful ?. The repair instamite with shipping looks like under $100. That will be awesome.

I know me, and Murphy's law. So I initially ordered a 6m and a 7m because having a close enough backup wing can never be a bad idea. The 4m I also have I don't imagine it getting enough use to need a back-up.
