I guess I need to load my van with all the gear
Nah, just an umbrella... Edit: I never said this. My account was hacked.
The Gilmer readings yesterday were wacky. Wondering if the chillier than normal water from the rain has an effect. Probably one of the bigger mismatches I've seen since peak April/May dome-ness.
Ed, Alan, JP, Chris & I sailed at Van Pugh. While I was rigging, the wind kicked in at 4 PM from the NW. The rain machine failed to materialize. It was dry & warm enough to be comfortable without a wetsuit. It really was blowing as hard as Gilmer was saying, only steadier on the water. I rigged an 8.5m sail, but should have rigged a 7.0m. The wind was steady enough that I flattened the sail and kept going with my 122 liter board. When I drove off, a 6.0m would have been just right. Also worth noting, the sky was beautiful with clouds in rapid motion.
Randy are you still in Hatteras?
Are the restaurants and shops open?
Got back today. Don't know about WS shops, but most all businesses were open. We did carry out a few times. Dare county has a mandatory mask requirement for all "places where social distancing is not possible." Every business we saw interpreted that to mean inside their premises. Beaches were open but not terribly crowded, though we avoided peak hours. The sound was pretty much empty except for the half dozen jetskis from a rental place nearby and a few random paddle boarders, wingsurfers and kite surfers depending on wind.

I was in Hatteras last week too. Shops are open. Good luck finding a place to stay for the next month or so. I talked to a few people at the rental companies and they said this was the most full they have ever been. Every single place was booked solid.
I'd like to go. The past couple of sessions were full of monkey pumping and I'm a bit wore out.
Edit: It would be nice if the rain factory in Mississippi would let up a bit.
After being skunked yesterday afternoon, I plan to try again this afternoon. I'll be heading to Van Pugh.

Was it blowing as hard as Gilmer was saying?
Not sure the wind speed on the water but the 5.7 was more than enough sail.
