I'm heading to Van Pugh to catch this morning's NE wind. I hope to arrive by 10 - 10:30AM.

Excellent foiling conditions at Vanns. I had to come out after 8 miles of pure joy, might go back on the water after my mtg. William, will do.

Great! Vanns continued strong till about 1pm - I got in another hour (8 more miles, total 16) after my conf call. Rogier and Alejo took off around 11, Dave D. kite foiled !(apparently 1st time) for a short spell between 11:30-12ish.

Re: This Tuesday Morning

Were you on the conference call when I sailed up there? I saw your car and a board. I though you were packed up. I jibed and headed back south. I was on a 5.4 today if it matters. I was doing fine in 8 going downwind. Alan was killing it on a 6.0 without a whitecap. We were both motoring around on a day when a formula board and 9.5 would have been frustrating.

Ed and Howard took second shift and I saw someone heading toward Van Pugh as I was leaving with a longboard and dacron sail on their cartop.

Meanwhile, I was working on my Freestyle Foiling. Here's a FoilAirBornRailRide. Tops this Balz Muller.....

Sounds like it - Alejo told me you came by. I sailed 8:15-9:30, had the conf call 10-11:30, sailed 12-1:15ish. Great day and sounds like the same for those at VP as well.

That's why I have an 11.0.

Randy, stop by Van Pugh sometime & demonstrate your airborne maneuver. I’m struggling just to foil at low altitude.

I'll probably go with Marine Tex or Duct Tape again. My agent has a call in to them. May take a while. They don't usually return his calls that fast.

Randy, you are killing it, dude. I really think you should be going for the Loretta's prize, too. You've seriously made some progress - much more at ease and getting off the water so much quicker. Happy, happy, happy!

Barrett, take note of Randy's front foot. Yes 3

Obligatory

Here is the Side B of my Tuesday morning. The second one actually scared me, not that I had long to think about it.

At 0:14... did anyone's hands leave the boom? Or did I get the wrong impression from the video?

Re: This Tuesday Morning

Looking at the original footage, I can't tell and I don't recall either, though I do recall after one really nasty crash thinking that I had hung onto the boom. It took 1.5 seconds to go from things seemed fine to hitting the water. After about 5 seconds my head reappears right next to the sail, so I don't think got very far away from it. I was very worried about slamming into the wing though, but probably didn't have any time to do anything about it. I had an abnormal number of crashes Tuesday getting used to using my long (95 cm) mast for the first time. Once I got past the first half hour, things got much better.

Thanks. I hope you didn't mind my asking. For those who aren't foiling yet, this is why rule 1 is "Don't let go of the boom." Holding on to the boom forces the foil to stay away from you instead of flipping up towards you. But sometimes, like this, things go sideways and you just let go anyway. I've done it, too. Blush

Nonetheless, thanks for posting the blooper reel, too. You doing well and definitely sorting things out. I, too, am now using a 95 and enjoying it. You are getting a lot of love over on Facebook for your youtube video. Good

Al Stewart: Way to go, Randy!!! I am so impressed and jealous with all the progress you guys have made foiling. Maybe I need to rethink my goals of becoming proficient in kiteboarding, and switch to "Foiling 101". Just don't tell my wife, Paula (AKA "the boss"), due to the "economics" ($$$) of getting into the sport. Let's see, how much can I get for old kiting equipment (again)? Pennies on the dollar, is that what I hear? At 75 years old, do I have enough time to economically amortize the high cost of entry, versus remodeling the kitchen, bathrooms, family room, screened porch/deck, etc.??? Be well, my Atlanta friends,
