No changes so far... we'll have to see Friday if there are updates for the weekend.

Clearly fishing, riding a jet ski and sailing a sailboat are not essential activities, nor are they exercise. Neither is duck, deer or geese hunting. You can buy food online at Walmart. So it seems kayaking, SUP, kitesurfing and windsurfing are exercise. I'm not sure about foiling - I hear it is so easy that you can do it for hours w/o breaking a sweat.

Sailing a boat/dinghy can be great exercise. Key word: can. Grinders on competitive boats are in great shape and I've read accounts of Olympic dinghy sailors burning through 5000+ calories a day. However, from the posts on Facebook, most big boat sailors on Lanier are sipping mint juleps (and I'm okay with that).

It's not hunting season so those people shouldn't be out anyway. However, they do need their ammo to keep hospital ships from being converted to government prisons so the gun stores are considered essential.

I've heard that about foiling, too. As there were times yesterday I was pumping like a mofo, I can not say I'm even remotely close to that level. Biggrin

I'd have said windsurfing is absolutely not essential until I see the rational for keeping liquor stores open: depriving "regulars" can cause significant harm. I think some of the mint julep sipping sail boaters on Lanier might fall under this category but I have zero proof other than years of stories of sailors and their rum. I think for some of us, the same could be said for windsurfing. Why else do we go out on sub 40 degree days other than to prevent withdrawal from wrecking our minds if not our bodies?*

* Some of these comments not to be taken too literally. I know people are literally dying. This is a coping mechanism.

I do not know about using ammo but I am hearing that a guy tried throwing his locomotive at it...

Here is the Shelter In Place order. Pretty complicated. I'll leave it at that.

That I knew. I was a guide back in Boy Scouts. Wink However, we usually only did it when the young guys couldn't find a left handed sky hook for the Scoutmaster.

"Eduardo Moreno said he doesn't believe "the ship is what they say it's for," according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles."

Wonder if he's related to the Moreno Twins?

As I understand it, the Governor's order does not require or even address park closings.

Even better, he's opened previously closed beaches. If they close Van Pugh, we can go to Tybee... Not that I would even consider it.

That is weird for more than one reason. I contacted a reported for the Brunswick paper and they said that the Jekyll beach would remain closed, and that it didn't conflict with Kemp's order. Second, it is pretty hard to explain why putting a Shelter in Place order in effect re-opens the beaches. They were closed because there were crowded from what I can tell.

"Stay at home" but it's okay to go to the beach. No chair so take a towel and sunscreen/hat. And there I was debating over the moral implications of going to Van Pugh.

https://fox28media.com/news/coronavirus/georgia-beaches-reopen-after-gov-kemps-executive-order-dissolve-local-ordinances

partial:

Quote:
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTGS) — Due to Governor Brian Kemp's Executive Order issued on Thursday, all local ordinances no longer are in effect.

This means that the local order to closed Tybee Island beaches on March 20 is no longer valid.

The Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Mark Williams signed an administrative order on Friday reopening all Georgia beaches, for the time being.

State Representative Jesse Petrea took to Facebook Friday afternoon to address the reopening of the beaches.

"Early this AM, I notified Mayor Sessions that this would impact the beach in that it was not expressly closed in the new order. Indeed, I contacted the DNR Commissioner early this AM to understand the matter. He explained that it would allow exercise on the beach by individuals/family groups but NO congregating. Moreover, he explained that Rangers were to be patrolling the beach to enforce strict social distancing," said Petrea in his post.

According to the administrative order issued by Williams, the use of chairs, tents and umbrellas will be prohibited on Georgia’s beaches seaward of the ordinary high-water mark, effective at 6 p.m. April 3 through 11:59 p.m. April 13.

Edit: Not my original thought but I found this appropriate: "It's like Jaws but with literally none of the entertainment value."
