Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Hope to sail all three days.
Starting around 3 or 4 on Friday .

Not sure about the antibodies (sunshine actually has a ton of mental and physical health benefits) but it's pretty much accepted that the sight of a bunch of middle-aged men (yeah, being generous here) squeezed into neoprene encourages social distancing. Lol

I'm worried that Friday will be too warm. I've been looking for SW launches at the bottom of the lake but with West Bank closed, not seeing much.

It was just 70 yesterday and the wind was struggling to stay on the water.

Wondering at what temperature difference does the dome effect become a thing. For Saturday, I'm seeing 10-20 in Augusta with high of 90! With lake temp still in the 60s, I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Invariably about 5 degrees less than whatever it is when I'm sailing. Seriously, good question. From looking back at things maybe 15-20 degrees? That's about as scientific guess as Stevie Wonder throwing darts. Always seemed like it bit us in April-ish when water would be high 50s to low 60s and the air temps pushing upper 70s. Probably depends on surrounding terrain, tree height (creates inversion zone like a valley), fetch, etc. The rain this week added a foot of cold water to the top here.

Lest anyone think I'm dissing Mr. Wonder, watch this to appreciate his genius: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7d7AL5Tvn4

20 degrees is what I think. I did search around several years ago and found some articles. I think there is even one posted on one of our forums that goes into depth on at, and recommends how to deal with it. I do recall that shorter fetches, and more narrow places with side shore wind are likely to do better than the kind of places we usually search out. I recall some SW-W days at 2 Mile and Keith's bridge that were pretty strong when Old Fed was placid. I also recall that the times I sailed at Kieth's Bridge in such conditions had some downright wicked winds - superstrong gusts, very deep lulls and various other kinds of "sharp edges."

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

You can watch this and maybe you'll get a breeze when it cools off. Biggrin

Re: Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Many kids swimming at OF today ( including going underwater ) some of the kids were on the water over 30 mins.

I will try to go foiling again tomorrow.
Should be a little cooler air and a little warmer water

Count me in for Sunday at Van Pugh! Saturday looks iffy, so I'm waiting to decide if SW wind will pick up at Old Federal.

Debi & I are going to LLSC around 1p today. Last chance before Dekalb hunkerdown order goes into effect for me. The clubhouse at LLSC is closed including bathrooms, I think, but the club is otherwise open.
