Thursday 02/13

I hope to be foiling with the 5.7 Thursday afternoon
I will probably be at VP. ( although...with the lake this high plans B and C kinda suck)

Re: Thursday 02/13

Conditions at plan A this afternoon. The lake is likely to be a foot higher tomorrow and another 6 -12 inches Thursday. I know everyone knows this but it bears repeating: if you get there and the logs are still blocking the walk into the water, drag them up in the grass. DO NOT shove them into the water. The prop/fin/foil you save may be your own.

If the forecast holds up and the rain tapers off, I will join you at Van Pugh Thursday afternoon. Thanks for the high-water photos.

Oh crap. The next foot of water in Lanier just entered the chat. Shok

Models have it lifting up into TN. Maybe we get less.

From the Gainesville Times. Apparently the meaning of "several" is wider than I thought Biggrin

The lake is holding steady around 1075.5 because the Corps said "f* it" to everything downstream and opened the gates solid. They usually just open it for few hours at a time but they've been open all day.

Quote:
Several boat ramps on Lake Lanier also are closed due to high water:

Belton Bridge

Bolding Mill Day Use

Keiths Bridge

Little Hall, 1 lane closed, 2 open

Little Ridge

Little River

Long Hollow

Mountain View

Nix Bridge

Old Federal Day Use

Robinson

Sardis Creek

Simpson

Thompson Bridge

Thompson Creek

Toto Creek

Two Mile

Re: Thursday 02/13

It was a good day in spite of the high frigid water. (Barrett's Thermometer measured 49 degrees at the VP ramp)
Sail sizes ranged from 4.7 to 6.0. Afterward a few of us enjoyed some country cooking at Loretta's.

Re: Thursday 02/13

Props to Neil for giving the wing another go. He's getting back and forth but flight on the foil so far evades him. (So many of us have been there!)

Neil, you took a break at a good time. The winds ramped up and we had gusts 25-28 according to Gilmer. I was foiling down swell almost completely sheeted out in the bigger gusts - I was flagging out the sail with both hands up by the boom. Biggrin

Some avoidable objects in the water but nothing horrible. The 15 ft sapling was easy to spot. Lol

Alan, Langdon, Barrett, Gene, Chris P, Al, Shred Dog (Scott S), Neil and I joined the fun. I think about 5 kites were up at Old Fed.

This might take a minute or two to get them transfered so check back over the next couple hrs.

I didn't see the sign. Anyway, we're special - it shouldn't apply to windsurfers. I did take precautions yesterday and changed to a weed fin due to all the debris in the high water.

No, wasn't there yesterday.
Edit: At the moment, Vann's Tavern is the only open park that we frequent: https://www.facebook.com/LakeSidneyLanierUSACE/posts/2597417923704329

Re: Thursday 02/13

Webguy was hanging out in 30518 North side of Lake Lanier Islands frequently
Barrett's camera has blurry photographic evidence of this.

Shred dog was jumping so often that I could not keep up with the camera.

I think I got a photo ( probably blurry) of Shred dog jumping almost as high as Webguy's sail

Re: Thursday 02/13

Looks like Tidwell is still open as far as I can tell. Tomorrow morning east, early. Might be good, if you can stand sub 40 temps. Might want to catch it now before the next deluge hits the Tropic of Atlanta and everything is shut down. FOR THE DURATION.

All in all - this is worse than the government shutdown - at least then there was no one on the payroll to enforce the park closings.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

Re: Thursday 02/13

Even the Kiosk for payment was off duty. The machine said "Park Closed - No Fee", saved my $5 for next time.
No fee, good wind, warm day, and a professional photo dude taking pictures to document it all.
What a day!

Thanks Langdon for the pictures. They turned out great!
