Anyone braving the cold and probable lake debris tomorrow?

Re: Friday 2/7

I may go ........

and watch.

Or maybe sail. It's looks like it might be very windy and very cold (compared to Sunday.)

Windmapper shows Saturday afternoon might be some wind (for foilers) and not cold.

I'm around this weekend so can go, and anyone who wants to look at or pick up gear, let me know.

Speaking of lake debris, I was at MAP last week and there was a truck and a barge there collecting lake debris. The barge had a lot of pine branches on it. I never realized they do go around and try to clear the water of debris. Of course, after today, there may be a fresh supply.....

Lake is up 1.5 feet today. That and the heavy rains should flush a lot of stuff off the banks. Just when you though foiling couldn't be any more challenging. Shok

Edit: Now approaching 2.5 feet. With rain expected next week, the Corps has another year of abnormally high Lanier levels. Two months ago I was losing sleep trying to figure out how to let my dock out. Now, it probably looks like an island with the ramp underwater.

A couple of weeks ago I hit a big waterlogged branch floating about 10” below the surface- thought I’d run aground. Shok

So is it time for the "Is the warmest winter in history the best thing that ever happened to windsport, or has it ruined it" thread?

Yes, I'm considering going this afternoon if it warms a bit more (is less cold). I'll stop by to look at the masts for sale.

I would expect the 88 posts to be along the lines of "the Windsurfer LT is best suited for warm winters since it's sales are so sizzling hot right now". Fool I love the board but some of its proponents are a bit ... shall we say, over the top.

Well, Saturday and Sunday are pooping out... and more rain coming next week. I wonder how high the lake is going. I wouldn't be surprised if we get close to 1074 this weekend and it's entirely possible to add another foot or two early next week as there's no way their going to put much of a dent in the lake level even with the tap completely open.

iirc, winter full pool is 1070 and summer is 1071. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ga/nwis/uv/?site_no=02334400&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060,00062

Allatoona is up almost 8 feet since the beginning of the month. Now just seven feet below full.

Edit: Branches may not be the only thing we'll be dodging on Lanier for the next several days: Wastewater spilled near Lake Lanier following heavy rains

Quote:
About 10,000 gallons of diluted wastewater spilled in the area of Honeysuckle Lane and entered Lake Lanier on Thursday.

At about 9:30 a.m. Feb. 6, the city of Gainesville detected high sanitary flow levels in the sewer mains leading to Linwood Water Reclamation Facility, according to a city news release sent Friday, Feb. 7. Gainesville Water Resources was alerted by a high-level alarm in a lift station, as well as an alarm from a surcharging manhole near Honeysuckle Lane. City crews discovered three overflowing manholes when they responded to the area.

You timed it just right to enjoy the flurries. Looks pretty in the woods with afresh dusting of snow.

Dear Sunrise Cove Slipholders,

Currently, the lake is 3' above full pool and expected to reach unprecedented levels.

Please use caution if you chose to take your boat out. Large debris and trees have been seen floating on the lake along with other objects that could potentially cause substantial damage to you and your boat.

Thank you,
Sunrise Cove Marina Management
