Florida Racing March Dates WindFoil/Longboard/Kitefoil

from Justin Ahearn/Ron Kern

The Bacardi Cup invite is a huge deal for windfoils and kitefoils. It's a prestigious regatta with some of the best sailors in the country competing.

Quote:
In early March Florida will host two back to back windfoil events. If you plan on attending either event please pre register to help the organizers plan and promote the event. Ideally we would love to have out of town sailors come down for both events. My team at CCSC will do everything in our power to help with logistics to make this possible.

March 4-7 (racing 5-7)
Bacardi Cup Miami

March 12-15 (racing 13-15)
Windsurf Midwinters Clearwater

The Bacardi Cup is normally an exclusive keel boat event but they have decided to invite windfoil and kitefoil classes this year. I think this is a really cool opportunity for windfoiling. The race committee will be top notch and we will get to expose windfoil to a new group of sailors. Racing will be held in Biscayne bay off Rickenbacker Causeway. Note that there is a requirement for personal liability insurance. Something we all should have anyway.

  • Wednesday March 4th - registration and happy opening party
  • Thursday March 5th - racing and happy hour
  • Friday March 6th - racing and happy hour
  • Saturday March 7th - racing and prize giving

The Windsurf Midwinters will be held again on the traditional second weekend in March. As always its a multi class regatta. I hope to build on the momentum of the windfoil gulf coast championships and have a strong foil fleet. The kids and I have been training hard on foil gear in preparation. Racing can be held in the gulf or bay depending on the conditions.

“personal liability insurance. Something we should all have anyway”

Say what?
Getting everyone to sign a waiver would be easier and cheaper.

Waiver covers the regatta organizer. Personal liability covers you. For when you are on port tack and cleave someone's vessel in half. More applicable to the J70s, Stars, Melges etc. where their "board" costs a bit more. Biggrin

Just saw this in the Bacardi Cup NOR

"17 INSURANCE17.2 The AV8 and Open Windfoil Class Competitors are required to carry third party insurance –minimum 1 million dollars (USD). "

Sweet heavens. My apologies, moredownhaul. I guess some FL lawyers are making too good of a living suing anything that walks?

Can't they get it through ISAF, or USWindsurfing or some other group that can buy group insurance for members. My NAPKA* membership provides $1 m in insurance for events for such as the annual Jekyll meet. My impression is that is a big part of why such groups exist.
