Gaastra has now entered the market. It seems to me they are late to the party. Seems like they are the first pure windsurfing brand to make (or is brand) a wing.

News to me: they have a kite brand, too: https://ga-kiteboarding.com/kites/kites-2020/air-wing-20/
As far as I can tell, one of the riders is Cedric Bordes, one of the windsurfing side's team riders: https://ga-windsurfing.com/team/cedric-bordes/
Foil looks like a rebadged Moses 633 kite foil. They rebadge the Vento 85 for their windsurfing line.

They do mention using it on a skateboard so add that to your windsport list, Randy. Yes 3

You know - I used to have a Gaastra kite come to think of it. Bought and later sold it on Ebay, so they aren't a pure WS brand, but I don't think they have much of a presence in kiting, while they still pretty significant in WS.

Many of the brands are pushing the skateboard/ATB angle. I think it does help in learning to handle the wing and it is a gateway drug to hard core windsports like foiling.

Seems that Duotone is ahead in the video count battle. Their vids seem to outnumber all the rest combined.

We watched an older couple at Kelly Park yesterday on very nice home made foil boards. To get started the guy started by climbing aboard on his knees. Then when he got powered with the wing he was able to stand up when the wind was up strong white caps he was flying for a while. Looks to me like a full body workout. BTW the board is about 50” long

A guy(Brent) at Howard park on Tuesday had a Duotone 4 Meter Wing and smallish foil board, with medium foil mast. He was getting some good flights. He said he had been messing with it for a couple of months, and it was one of his better days. It was faily windy, 10-20+. I was on my 5.2 sail and 115 liter and then the foil board.

Is he coming from the kite or windsurf side of things to try it? Wondering where the interest mostly lies.

Moses 1100 wing and Ozone 4m wing. All it would take is one good boat wake in the summer here and you are off. Biggrin A lot of monkey pumping, though.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

It is interesting to see how much time he spends "towing" the kite behind him (he's either riding down waves or is riding downwind) - which seems like a lot of the video. It seems to me when he's doing that the wing is really not any help - in fact it seems to be a bit of a liability. Also notice how much of the time he was pumping the board when towing the kite. All this suggests to me that he doesn't need the kite much though it clearly does help him at times, such as when he's heading out against the waves.

Having said all that - it is cool. If only Lake Lanier had that shade of green water, instead of puke green.......or is it goose green?

New Caledonia. The FOnes seem to have the camber sewn in with a fabric "keel"? Randy, is that something the other kites have? Another poster on FB says the Duotones are a bit fragile and a few of them have popped in crashes.

If yI were a kiter in a kite unfriendly place (cough, cough, GA pines, cough) this seems like a good alternative.

Yeah- sewing the rib like the F-One has been used a lot in traction kites. I've not seen it in a kitesurfing kite, but I'm not up on what's being done there. It is probably somewhat easier (and cheaper) to sew than sewing the shape into the spar. The first seconds of this show the same idea (which I did not originate.) It is now the norm for top of the line single skin traction kites.

As for wings over Georgia - I'm guessing at least one will appear before long.

Looks like more than one wing has emerged.

Yeah, I called my own number - a r2r gift. Yes 3

Sounds like I should be getting lessons from Neil since he is already having some success on the water. I'm a landlubber for now.

A few observations. First, je suis nul.....never managed to make a good transition (just changing direction) so far. 2.) - this thing (4m) is huge. I was sort of regretting not getting a 3m, but I'm getting used to it. I probably will need all 4 m on the water. 3.) "they" say it is not tiring to hold the wing up. True - but only if there is enough wind so it flies by itself. Otherwise - it is very tiring. 4.) It de-powers just like a sail. Simply raise the back arm or let go of the back strap. Lower the back arm and it powers up. 5.) I don't know if I am pumping it right, but it seems to help. 6.) It is not too difficult to control the wing orientation if there is enough wind to "fly" it. Not easy otherwise. 7.) Handles gusts well due to its' depower and inherent stability. Handling lulls is more difficult (see Nos. .3 and 6.) 8.) I found it very difficult to control going downwind. Must be why the vids always show guys flying it depowered downwind.

Anyway, it should be fun!

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

This is an interesting video - watch the guy with the red sail. He tries to get flying, but doesn't. However, it looks like he still is planing pretty well dispite using a wing it what looks like very light wind. I suppose he could be on a Gong 7m, or weigh 80 lb, but still.....

Eastern WY and CO where it's windy as hell and relatively flat - this could be a winner. Kites need less wind but trees and chairlifts make a wing preferable in some cases.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

The kitewing (which is built very much like a conventional windsurf sail) has been used on ice and snow for years so this is not a big breakthrough by any means. Being lighter would be an advantage, but the kitewing is probably a higher performing wing. (It's been used on water too, but doesn't float, and looks pretty heavy.)

Oz

Looks like he almost pulls off a full foiling tack around 1:10

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

Being able to completely depower the wing should make foiling tacks feasible, perhaps not terrible harder than jibes. (Not saying I could ever do it.)
