Saturday, Sunday and Monday, here's hoping

I know the folks at NWS have not bumped the forecast computer yet but I am hopeful for some flights Sunday and Monday afternoon.

I'd hopes for Hartwell tomorrow for an east but the wind line seems to have shifted further east. I haven't spent a weekend home in a month so not eager to hope back in the car for another long drive. Monday looks better. Here was today on Lanier by the dam.

Well there is this from windfinder. I won't be available, but if I was I'd keep my eye on it. (The 20+ MPH gusts are probably just ghosts in the machine.) The other forecasts are not optimistic NWS and Iwindsurf say NE 5. Seems like last Saturday the forecasts were similar and there was actually some wind in the morning, although it was in the upper 30's at the time.

Re: Sunday and Monday, here's hoping

Gonna be a rough few days for OBX

Quote:
All this adds up to a weekend dominated by raw, gloomy weather for much of the coastal Southeast and mid-Atlantic. Eastern North Carolina is in for the worst of it. Prolonged east to northeast surface winds will push water against the Outer Banks and into the rivers and inlets of Pamlico Sound. Inundations of 2 to 4 feet are possible, especially in the Outer Banks. The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City predicts that wind gusts could be in the range of 50-60 mph over and near Pamlico Sound and as high as 70-80 mph along the Outer Banks. Wave heights could reach 5-7 feet even within Pamlico Sound, and 20 feet or more just offshore.

Computer models are still struggling to depict the precise evolution of the surface low, and its exact track and strength will largely determine the severity of the impacts. Still, there is increasing confidence in a high-impact, nor’easter-type storm.

Ocean overwash is the biggest threat, according to the NWS. “In some areas on the oceanfront north of Cape Hatteras, battering waves will cause damage to property,” said the office in a forecast discussion on Friday afternoon. “Numerous roads will be impassable under several feet of water and vehicles will be submerged. Some neighborhoods will be isolated and some areas may need to be evacuated.” Some soundside flooding is possible across Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, Downeast Carteret County, and the Lower Neuse River, they added.

Anyone going today (sat)? Not great but windsurf shows some possibilities around 1-2 from the east? I am getting my new board this morning and might try VT, unless I am relying too much on wishful thinking? Otherwise, sun looks very calm but possibly Mon PM VP?

I will be watching for later this afternoon, tomorrow and Monday.
I do not think we can go by the forecasts this weekend ( they have been changing every 3 or 4 hours)

Watch the trees and roll the dice
Also watching to see if GSP weather is doing

If I do go today it will be at VT

Forecast today for Hartwell is holding up. I've been looking at it for a few days. A lot warmer than it had been predicted earlier, though.

I'm thinking about it.

How is VT looking in the forecasts you check? I don't think I can drive to hartwell today. The forecast I look seems pretty bleak...

Wow, the OBX is really getting hammered. I'm hoping the off-shore low brings some wind from the west on Monday afternoon. If it does, I'll sail at Van Pugh.

Dot at 1 pm? I'll give it a go, I think. I don't want to spend four hours in a car. I can get stuff done at the lake house if it's a bust going to Van Pugh.

Glad I didn't waste gas going to the coast. Looks brutal now. That same spin was here yesterday over ATL

Well... that didn't work. Hoping Monday is better. Hamdi had it worse than me, though. I just got skunked. He got bitten by fire ants, too. Sad

I am very tempted as well, though starting to get burned out from driving to the lake in borderline (heavy on wishful thinking) forecasts that turn out to be too light to bother with rigging and getting wet. Mon Forecast on iwindsurf isn't as strong as it was a few days ago, from what I see.

I hope to be there* early to mid afternoon.
* VP?

Sorry about the lack of wind HamdiD. I know its frustrating, Especially when you have new gear.

The wind from early summer till now has been
worse this year than the previous 3 years that I have been windsurfing.

Maybe we will get a few good Easts in the next few weeks.

It's gone dots tonight. I'll be at VP.

Hamdi, the good days will outweigh the bad. When you are planing, foiling, it will all be worth it. Biggrin

Re: Saturday, Sunday and Monday, here's hoping

Looks to me like those good -or even decent- wind days are still in the future. For today (Mon), every forecast I am looking at has gone down in the wind department, looking much like Saturday's predictions now (just different direction). Anyone seeing anything different?
