Tuesday 7/16 Old 41 Report

Got the wild hair to try Allatoona today. When google maps told me it was only 35 minutes up there and the tops of the trees started moving at the house, I figured: "For science!"

On the way up, Randy rang me and told me that Galts was a bust and that he, coincidentally, was headed to Old 41. Yay, company! When I rolled in the parking lot and he was mostly rigged so I didn't, as usual, go into slow poke mode.

We got lucky and ended up having about an hour and half of 8-15. Randy is getting good flights in and having the confidence to lift the board pretty quickly out of the water. The water, itself, was butter smooth since the area there is pretty small, maybe 3/4 mile across. The breeze wasn't super steady but enough that we were powered probably 60-70% of the time which for the middle of July is wonderful.

I could have used more wind, but William certainly had more than enough fly elevated above the water. Still not bad for July 16th of any year.

Perhaps we need to update the Old 41 article in the Wiki highlighting it's an ideal location for windfoiling because it is one of the few lake locations in area that is has no Branta canadensis or their associated waste products. And not many homo sapiens or boatholes either. Just nice flat water ideal for foiling.....at least once in a while if you are lucky.

Yes - that movie perfectly captures the look of Old 41, esp the wind and emerald blue water. I may have taken my worst videos ever. I must have sprayed sunscreen on my camera......But I will see what I can do. I do have some footage showing what looks like a ghost ship moving silently out of a fog passing quickly.

That was some of my best work, Randy. My best work! Biggrin

Here is the really bad video of the ghost ship and the new workout craze - pumpercize.
