Re: Naish Wingsurfer

The lowest price model from Duotone ($535) is only 2 M and is not complete - you need the $129 boom, and if you don't already have a pump and leash (I do) you are looking at $745. While a 2m might work for skateboards on a parking in a lot of wind for anyone bigger than Kainani a 2m is probably too small. The complete Duotone 4m is $829. I'd probably go with the Slingshot 4.2 m though ($749). They have been working on this for years.

It is interesting how the availability dates seem to keep getting pushed off to "soon" or "next month." There must be a lot of interest though as they are asking for deposits. You don't that happen very often.

This video shows 3 wings - Naish, Dutone and Slingshot. Naish looks by far to be the simplest design and build.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

Just saw the MacKite video - the SS and Duotone both look better thought out, imho. Interesting point about using these on skateboards.

Here is a video in German. I don't speak German. What I did understand is that this isn't easy... Shok Hilarity ensues around 2:00

"Es war echt tricky" I think translates as "Trix are for Kids " Lol (2:31)

Here is what I've been looking for. The amount of work required makes me think twice about it.

30 seconds in... this doesn't look that hard. He's just marking stuff with a sharpie and not even measuring
7 minutes in... Dang, if I spent my time at a job picking vegetables in a field to pay for a real wing, I'd be ahead of the game plus I wouldn't have sewn my fingers together.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

The guy seems to do repair work based on his web page. I'm guessing at his normal hourly rate this thing would cost thousands. But hey - I've got the junker kites (thanks to Gene cleaning out his attic) and I've got a sewing machine.......Still, Idk. Most of my kite buggy kites took a few days to build and materials cost very little. However, the object was never really to save money. That said, it is probably a lot easier to start something from scratch with a good plan than to build it as you go from an existing object.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

Here is a much simpler option.

With a little work seems like they could put an airfoil shape into it.

Yet another wing is out there. This one is from Manta. Only a drawing is available. $715 US including shipping. Would not be shocked if it is someone else's wing with Manta's logo. (Slingshot? It is the same size as their wing FWIW).

They also have combo deal - the wing, SUP Foil and inflatable SUP/Windsurf board for about $1600+shipping.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

On this thread in another board there is a actual video (for download, not online) of sail v wingsurfer. Wingsurfer seemed "win" with crazy pumping, but the sail guy didn't really seem to be trying. Winds 9-14, lightweight rider (140 lb). 85 liter board.

Robby tells all. Answers a lot of questions. Doesn't particularly recommend using it with a skateboard. Of course, a skateboard on pavement is about the easiest wind powered ride, and the equipment requirements are pretty minimal (far less than $800) as my buddy from France has shown time and again.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

A couple of interesting videos. First, answers the question - does it need to be an inflatable? (Of course the answer is no, since that's how this started anyway, but this design looks very much like the inflatables.)

Second, the learning curve for guy with both foil and ws experience.

For the love of all that's good, please warn us before posting such a moustache! Biggrin

I ordered a set of plans for one of those when I was 17. That I'm here now is a testament to the value of not having enough money to try something beyond one's technical skills. How well did yours fly?

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

Go Foils and Duotone 4s and 5s. Video says 10-15 kts but looks like 15-20 by ATL standards. Looks interesting but not compelling. I'd rather rig a 5.5 sail and enjoy the foil - looks more maneuverable, though.
