Re: Isthmus Foil Saile thru 6/30

BTW - William found a really interesting article reviewing various foil boards including some of the ones for sale at Isthmus. (Translated from French, float = board.)

https://marseille.glissattitude.com/blog/comparatifs-foilboards.html

Here is one of the parts I found interesting and amusing.

"Float / sail adequation
This is the most complex area to apprehend as the received ideas are inked. As we know, the foil attracts first and foremost beginners for its light wind side. They do not move to a foil navigation any time until after several months or seasons of practice.

For many riders "fin", small time rhymes with wide float. So they often make this shortcut wrong: "to navigate the light, just take a float as wide as possible, a foil and a small sail (" I was told that with the foil you put 2m2 less " After the first sessions to apprehend the beast, we all see them back saying "I do not understand, I need between 15 and 20 knt of wind to fly, it's not normal" ... yes, I confirm, it is not normal !!! Just because a large float requires a strong sailing thrust to make it accelerate .Let us not forget that the formula was used with 11.7m2, and a float of 135L is often used with 8.5m2.

If we understand the above, we deduce that the choice of max sail size (for light weather) is very related to the choice of float ... or that the choice of float must be made according to the sail that we intend to use. With the same foil, the same model of sail and under the same conditions, if we need 7.5m2 for a float of 80cm wide, it will take at least 8.6m2 for a float 90cm wide ... c is a test that we have done several times and that has been verified each time.

You will easily deduce that

If you want to sail with 7m2 max in the light, choose a float 75cm wide
If you want to sail with 8m2 max in the light, choose a float 80cm wide
If you want to sail with 9 or 10m2 in the light, choose a float 90cm wide
If you want to sail with 5m2 max in the light, choose a 70cm wide float, an ultra light sail and a pacemaker because it will have to be (very) energetic .. but it is possible;)

Of course, these values are indicative for an average size with a very good technique and wishing to navigate between 8 and 10 knot. It is obvious that a gauge of 90kg will have to toil at least 7.8m2 to navigate in these conditions."

There is no off season.

BTW - Apparently, someone at Isthmus forgot to change the calendar. The sale prices (on boards at least) seem to still be in effect even though it is now July 1.....

There is no off season.
